On arrival at the Taj Gardens at 8pm I was told a) that there was no reservation and b) that the hotel was full to bursting anyway. I stood my ground for the best part of one hour whence we established that the overbooking was going to come to a head at around 3 in the morning. I suggested that it would be better dealt with then rather than now. Having taken copies of my E-bookers confirmed and paid for reservation, the reception staff then asked me how I intended to pay for the room. They let me use an computer with an internet connection and I printed out the entry from my bank account reflecting the amount paid against the corresponding reference numbers of my booking. I was then asked how I would pay the difference between the sterling amount I had paid and the dollar amount that the room was worth ! I told them that this was something they should take up with E-bookers. Needless to say we retreated to our room and bolted the door with no money changing hands. However once sleeping I received a further phone call from someone from reception asking if e-bookers was a British travel agent !! On checking out in the morning I was asked how I would settle my bill !! My response is unprintable

We needed a hotel near the airport before an early morning flight.
A comfortable hotel ( de luxe room) with everything we needed.
Wake up calls galore to ensure we didn't miss the flight and a breakfast packet waiting for us.
The 24 hour coffee shop isn't really.
Dinner in the restaurant was a very tasty sea food bryani at a reasonable price
The most efficient check in/out in Sri Lanka!

Visited in the hotel for one night before our departure flight from Sri Lanka.
Rooms:
The hotel is pretty old, still the room we got was ok, the shower is pretty old.
The main problem we encountered is mosquitoes, we where bitten repeatedly (even in the restorant). We have asked the front desk to do something about it, they send someone to clean & check the room but it had no effect on the bites we got.
Also, we got the suggestion of rubbing repelant before going to sleep, it's a solution, I would preffer to get from the hotel a repelant for the room that worked on electricity - we didn't get this suggestion, though.
Service:
The service was with a smile.
Restorant:
Food was ok, mosquitoes was our only problem.
Facilities:
We didn't use... seems to have a nice pool.
Conclusion:
Reccomended mainly for late arrivels/departures to/from the airport.

We spent our last night in Sri Lanka at this hotel on Christmas Eve. This is no more than a 3* travellodge/holiday inn style hotel perfect for 1 night.
The rooms were ok and the food served in the main restaurant was ok too. Probably one of the better hotels we stayed in during our stay in Sri Lanka.
Not alot else to stay, other than like the whole of Sri Lanka, the hotel was in need of a refurb.

Having been unavoidedly delayed in Colombo we needed to find a hotel near the airport. Colombo itself is a good 70 minutes drive away. The Taj Airport Garden Hotel was our choice. It is a 1970's highrise hotel - small bathrooms - average sized rooms - nothing special. The public areas are well overdue for a renovation - very tired. The restaurants - ok - nothing special. The staff were just so willing to please. Nothing was a problem - they were genuinely seeking to please, and not doing so with expectations of an immediate (cash) reward.
Unless you needed to be close to the airport there are much better choices - poor price value.
