We booked this hotel for a budget escape to Rio, during high season (January, summer). We browsed various hotels located in Copacabana, looking basically for a good price (or cost bennefit) and in this aspect the Ducasse Hotel exceeded our expectations.
The hotel's website had an offer R$189,00 per night, for one double room night including breakfast - which is a reasonable price, but contacting the hotel's reservation directly I could get a discount and a complimentary meal per day. So, in the bootom line I payed a daily rate of R$170 (aproximatelly US$75) for a double room, breakfast, one meal and all taxes included.
Ducasse is an old fashioned hotel, with 4 rooms per floor in a build of 13 floors. It is more like a residence service than a hotel, with a small lobby and tiny elevators. Despite of the build has a contemporary design, clearly the hotel never has been refurbished - the atmosphere is not charming, and the furniture is overpassed, but functional.
We stayed at room 1002 which has a balcony and view for the sea (look the photos), the room has enough space, a good bathroom, a small cable TV 14 inches. Try to keep in your mind you're paying around US$75,00 to sleep in Copacabana in high season with a meal included and ignore that the sheets, pillows and towels will be retiring pretty soon.
I didn't like the door soundproofing ou isolation - you can hear everything that happens in the apartments lobby - the maid, the steps and the doors of the other guests opening and closing. Be prepared to wake up togheter to the other guests who are sharing the same floor.
The staff is very friendly and they have a very nice breakfast. When I called them to reserve the room, I asked for a garage and they told us they didn't but I could leave my car in front of the hotel. In fact they have an space in the sidewalk and a porter and vallet service 24 hours a day, I didn't have any problem parking my car there, but if a safe garage is important to you, be aware of this lacking.
The complimentary meal is not served in the hotel but in a buffet restaurant closed by. You get a voucher to eat as much as you can, but the restaurant is a crowed and noisy place for casual food, nothing special. In my humble opinion Copacabana has hundread of better options than that place, amdif you like to eat and think that restaurants are an important part of a trip, try to negotiate a discount in the daily rate and get away of this complimentary-trap meal.
Finnally, the location: the hotel is located less than 100mts from beach in one of the best and fancy parts of copacabana Beach, 10 minutes by taxi from Ipanema and Lagoa. But there's something none mentioned here before, and in my opinion is the worse thing in the Ducasse hotel. Exactly in corner where the hotel is located is the main access to a huge "favela". I did not feel unsafeness or did not have been disturbed, but definetelly I didn't like it. Look the photo and make your choice. Ducasse has a good cost bennefit equation, but is far from a "best buy" label.

We looked at other hotels around our budget and this came out the best. On arrival, we were pleasently surprised. Room small but clean. Breakfast was good and included in price. Location great. Staff helpful and will book tours and transport for you.

I've been on August and I was locating a cheap hotel and well located, so I find vey good opinions of this hotel, and I agree with them, I stay in a room with two twin beds, the room is small, the shower and badroom are really small, but you have a view in the balcony to Copacabana beach, the people of Ducasse hotel are very kindly, the hotel is well located, two blocks from Copacabana, and like 5-8 minutes walking to Ipanema, and you pay only us$60 including breakfast, you won't find a better price for a hotel more closer to Copacabana and Ipanema.

The hotel is basic but a good value....for less than US$60/night, you get a clean, but dated room with a balcony and a waterview. The room safe was not working and the room was overall very plain, but being so close to Ipanema and Copacabana is a great advantage. This is not a lavish place to stay, but when you are in Rio, who needs more than a bed to sleep.....most of your time, you will be enjoying the city.
Contact the front desk directly for the city tour, it is inexpensive compared to other choices (other hotels, tour agencies, etc) and the full day in Rio was a great option.
