Currently under renovation. The room was palatial in size (esp bathroom), with new paint, fixtures and apparently the rooms are having new furniture installed. Staff were very friendly and helptul. Denny's right across the road was handy.

myself and my 15yr old daughter travelled down from sanfran where we stayed at the excellent argonaut hotel.we wanted a one night stay in monterey.when i booked in feb i struggled to find accommodation in monterey.it was very expensive or booked up. when i reached monterey i was puzzled to why this was so.ok place but nothing special.anyway i paid a non refundable 227dollers for a 1night stay at the vagabond(£116).motel was clean,basic and friendly owner but no way $227.i would have thought $80 more like.i only paid $260 a night at argonaut in san francisco.i still cant get my head round this.i think if i did trip again then maybe i would stay on 101 and get farther down coast mainly because of overpiced accomodation although i would have liked to have gone on a whale watching trip.

Stayed at the hotel when I came to monterey from maryland. It is competatively priced that the other hotels nearby. Had a nice time
