We were booked into this hotel as part of a tour, I am quite easygoing with hotels, I require only a clean bed and bathroom and i am pretty much happy.
In which case I must say not a huge fan of the Basma, the outside areas were lovely, big terraces, great views beautiful gardens and a good pool with a bar, but aside from the reception area I found the inside of the hotel a little depressing. It was very very dark and the hotel rooms though large were less than spotless. Our bathroom was dank, the shower leaked flooding the entire bathroom, and most of the room, we called reception who sent 1 person 20 mins later to fix the leak, I then had to ask again for someone to come and clean up the mess (another 20 minute wait.)
The resturant was nice enough, we had lunch on the terrace, which was nice and the waiters/waitresses were really lovely. The evening buffet wasnt great, the deserts (which had been there since lunch) had flies on many of the items!!
In short: I wouldnt say I would never consider staying at the Basma again, but I would look for other options first.

This was a very confortable hotel with a large room.
We had the hotel buffet one evening and the price was absolutely shocking - over 10 times the amount we'd paid at the restaurants in town. Yes, we were silly not to clarify the price of the buffet before eating before i still thought the cost was outrageous. The food wasn't particularly great.

Our travel agent booked us here. We arrived and our tour guide told us it was one of the nicest hotels in Aswan. I don't believe it. Try the Old Cataract, Isis Island, or Movenpick first. From the outside these hotels looked much nicer. Our room was spacious and cool, but the sheets were rough, the bathroom had horrible lighting, and our view was over a cemetery. You have to walk a while to get into town, maybe 10 minutes. It's okay - as in clean and standard but if you want 5 star do not stay here.
