I stayed at the Royal Mirage at the beginning of this month for a weeks holiday with my boyfriend. When checking into the hotel we were seen to straght away and the staff were very polite and helpful. We were taken round to our room, we had a ground floor twin bedroom, it was a good size with 2 double beds, a bathroom with bath, shower, hairdryer, etc and a seperate toilet. The rooms were tidied everyday and the maid also sometimes left flowers on our bed, we had a nice little garden type thing instead of a balcony which walked out onto the pool which was nice. The pool is huge and the swim up bar is great, the staff who work on there are funny and very friendly. There are a few restaurants but we didnt eat in them all, we tried Ricardo which is the Italian and both enjoyed the food, we also tried the pool bar restaurant which was nice too. We mainly ate in the buffet restaurant which is for the people who choose to go half board etc, the evening meals were nice and there was always a good variety. the breakfast was the same everyday but there are people there who will make you fresh pancakes or omelettes as you want them.
We were in walking distance to the Medina, although we only did this once and got a taxi back mainly because it was so hot and the taxi's were cheap (you can often travel in the horse and carts for the same cheap price as a taxi). We ate in a restaurant called LeMarrakeshi which overlooked the Jeema-el-fna which I would recommend (it was also the only place on the square that served alcohol).
We also travelled to the new town where most of the bars are, this was just a short taxi also.
There is a lovely bar and restaurant if you turn left out of the hotel and left again called L'Oriental it serves all types of food and is reasonbly priced, we spent our last couple of nights there and only hoped we'd found it sooner.
You will pay 30dirhams for a large bottle of water from the hotel which is just over ?2 but if you turn left out ouf the hotel, left and left again, there's a little shop about 2 mins walk away where you can get a large bottle for only 6dirhams but the security guard will tell you to hide any food/drinks you've bought outside of the hotel in your bag before you go in!
Overall I loved this holiday and would definately visit the Royal Mirage again, in a lot of the previous bad reviews I think that people are expecting it to be on the same level as a 5* hotel in London. If you are prepared to waiver the stars a little then you will enjoy it. I definately recommend it.

I stayed at the Royal Mirage for my honeymoon, and have to say having read reviews before we went, was petrified of how awful it was going to be. I was pleasantly surprised though - the staff were friendly and helpful (although we didn't recieve our complimentary bottle of champagne, as promised). We were in the middle-of-the-range rooms - fairly basic but certainly not grubby. The breakfasts were very good, but drinks at the bar expensive. It's a good distance away from the Jemaa El Fna. Overall, as it was my honeymoon I probably would have preferred something a little more glamorous but we didn't pay much for our stay and certainly don't have much to complain about.

So it's definitely not a 5*, and in fact I've probably stayed in better 3* accomodation, however, some of the reviews on here are a little out of order.
We were very lucky, as we went for my boyfriend's 30th, and prior to arriving, I contacted Thomson's to request a decent room as it was a special occasion. This was fulfilled and we were given a Superior room (we'd only paid for a standard). It was lovely, and the room was probably the best part of the hotel.
The drinks were very overpriced (?4 for a Heineken), and the breakfasts were terrible. Stale bread was the best choice, but if you like eggs then you're in for a treat!!!
The pool was cleaned every day however, the pool area was not, and there was constantly bird muck on the grounds and the sunbeds, which was never removed for the week we stayed there. Also there aren't enough sunbeds!!!
The concierge staff are lovely, but be prepared, you should tip them. Reception staff were ok, but it's a pain that you have to fill in yet more forms on arrival at the hotel.
Overall it's ok, but I really didn't like Marrakech. It was dirty, smelly and fullof poverty!!!

The royal mirage is certainly no more than a 3 star hotel.
It has 2 extravantly furnished foyers and a decent enough pool.
However the rooms are a bit drab and not very clean.
The service is neutral but ok.
I would recommend this hotel to someone who wants to relax just outside the medina; it is a few minutes drive/carriage or a brisk 30mins walk to the square

Its a Mirage alright.
You get what you pay for - and we didnt pay much so we didnt get much.
Have to say they tried - they were very trying.
But we had a great time in Marrakech....its the place to go. But next time I think we might stay somewhere else....actually, anywhere else.
They do try - I will give them that, but those breakfasts must be famous by now. Its the Sheraton's equivalent of a scrum in the final of the Rugby World Cup....without the Try!
