We were looking for a quiet week, in the sun, away from the noisy resorts. This place is an absolute dream. Wonderful hotel, full of character, the refurbishment is fantastic - feels like you're wallowing in luxury.
Service is impeccable, and prices within the hotel are extremely reasonable.
The town is extremely small, very pretty historic centre. Just a few choices for eating outside the hotel. But, we found that there were enough options, and to be honest, it was hard to drag ourselves away from the hotel.
Highly recommended.

We stayed here for Christmas 2007. This is the best hotel we've ever stayed in. The hotel itself is beautiful, with lots of interesting art and furniture. The rooms are amazing. We had the pleasure of staying in the Torre for a few nights, which was incredible. The service in the hotel is perfect. The rooms were cleaned several times a day, but very inobtrusively. Nothing is too much trouble. We bought a painting from a local gallery and asked the hotel if they could provide us with cardboard to wrap the picture for the flight home. They took the painting away and returned with it expertly wrapped in bubble-wrap and cardboard. Fantastic! We took part in the Christmas Eve programme which consisted of a local choir and an exquisite meal afterwards. The hotel staff helped make this a very memorable Christmas experience for us.

We spent five nights at Hotel San Roque over Christmas 2007 and agree with all the comments of the previous reviewer.
This is a family run hotel and it runs beautifully - this is a family that is really interested in running a great hotel and providing a great experience for guests and it shows in numerous little ways that really matter. The Christmas Eve celebration was lovely as the previous reviewer said - and the whole hotel was decorated and transformed without any disruption or noise for guests. The same night, all of the special decorations and marquees, lighting etc were taken down during the night - again with no disruption to guests. We were given quality leather goods as little Christmas gifts outside our bedroom door on Christmas morning. A nice bottle of wine in the room with chilled glasses on the first night... a Christmas card from the chambermaids (yes, signed by them!). So, somebody here is clearly thinking about the guest experience all the time.
The hotel is a lovely boutique hotel of great character and style (but not so over the top as to make you feel awkward or uncomfortable). It is really well located for the town of Garachico and we played golf at the nearby Buenavista (Ballesteros designed) club which was wonderful - stunning clubhouse and outdoor infinity pool built into the rocks.
This is a very interesting part of Tenerife and a wonderful romantic retreat. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for two nights whilst travelling round the island and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a split level room which was very interesting architecturally. Jacuzzi bath seemed unusually placed in lounge/hall area - but was very nice.
The hotel itself is very calm and peaceful - a great place to come and de-stress! Nice pool area which is beautifully lit at night. Breakfasts were lovely - remember you can have a hot breakfast also - we did not realise this till we heard others order. Otherwise a good selection of meats, cheeses, breads, fruit etc and very nice coffee on offer.
We did not eat dinner there but the menu did look interesting.
We were excited by the previous review's mention of a "Help Yourself Cava Bar" but would stress this is not a free bar but that glasses of Cava are about 4 Euros each - however nice to sip on a very hot day!!!
Staff were very pleasant and friendly.
The town itself is beautiful - lots of old buildings to admire not forgetting the Museum of the Volcano. We did eat at Gaspars (restaurant down the road) but were disappointed and could not recommend it as our meal was very poor although the lovely man who served us was run off his feet that night!
Lots of nice places to have a drink and some tapas which is what we did other night.
We will return to this hotel again and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.
