You can't ask for more than Hotel Pinto El Greco in beautiful Toledo.
The hotel--a steal at 56 Euros--is at the edge of the old town, a less than 5-minute walk on cobblestone roads from Santo Tome, the (former) synagogues, and San Juan de los Reyes monastery. I actually preferred the location at the edge of Old Town because it gave us a respite from the press of day-trippers from Madrid who, understandably, flock to see medieval Toledo.
The hotel is right across the street from a lovely park dedicated to Spain's favorite Greek. The park has great views off the cliffs of hilltop Toledo. All the sites in Toledo, including the amazingly beautiful Cathedral and its precious artwork, are within easy walking distance (sometimes uphill) from the hotel. The city bus stops down the street, which is worth taking because the #12 line (I believe) takes you along the outside the medieval city walls, giving you an excellent look at the well-preserved walls and at Bisgara Gate before dropping you off at the main square, Plaza Zocodover.
The rooms are spacious by European standards. The bathrooms are as well. The hotel was immaculate and well-stocked. The bed was very comfortable. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. The place is so well-constructed that we didn't have any problem with noise from other guests. The staff spoke good English and was very helpful.
This hotel is one of the best-kept secrets in Toledo. Unless you're the kind of person who wants to spend a fortune on palatial accommodations, this is the best choice in Toledo. We'll definitely be back.

After booking this hotel, I had read quite a few unfavorable reviews on various websites. The hotel is clean, the service is excellent and the breakfast more than adequate. And around the corner is one of the best restaurants, in my opinion, in Toledo.

I had stayed at this hotel for a night about 8 years ago. I remembered that, although the staff were less than friendly, the location was great for visiting Toledo's sites, and that the spot was quiet and picturesque. "Was" is the operative word.
We arrived on this birthday trip to find most of the old town covered in scaffolding. Worse still, some buildings had been torn down.
Most importantly, don't be deceived by the Pintor El Greco's pictures. Where once there was a lovely, lush garden to sit in out front (as shown in the photo), there is now the gaping concrete entrance to an underground parking lot -- right on your doorstep.
I had requested one of the front-facing rooms on an upper floor (having booked miles ahead of time, and during an off-season). Got there to be told we had a nice side-facing room on the second floor. Once in the room, we discovered that, because the hotel is built on a hill, the windows were actually only a few feet off the ground. Worse still, the street outside was on the bus route. Passengers constantly stared in on us sitting on our bed-they were only a few feet away, after all.
The room was hot, but we couldn't keep the window open because of all the noise and the staring faces. Worse yet, the room was next-door to the cleaning staff's storage room. An old toilet sat in the middle of it, and women gathered there from 7:30 a.m. until about 2 p.m. to chat, cackle and generally clank around.
We asked to switch rooms, but were offered one that opened out onto an internal light well, which, in the hot weather, was dark and stuffy. This is in spite of the fact that the hotel seemed far from full.
Add to this a phone that didn't work, a bath/shower that wouldn't drain, ac that wouldn't work, and unhelpful staff, and it's probably no surpirse that we ended up leaving for Madrid early.

In such a compact city as Toledo, we thought this hotel was great. It was easy to access ( as Toledo could be quite challenging if you decide to drive through it) and the best part was that it did had its own parking.
It is not a 5 star hotel, however for a 3 -4 star we did not mind. Yes, you will not have a pool, 3 restaurants and a spa, however it is clean, staff is helpfull and it has its own charm. The rooms are average, maybe a little outdated, however matching the architecture of the hotel. We found it comfortable and pretty.

I chose the hotel because of the traditional-and-modern hint and was not disappointed. The room was very nice, with excellent bathroom, caring for all the necessities, and the receptionist was also very helpful.
However, there were some not so pleasant things as well. The first - as usual in Spain - was the noise, both from street and from the neighboring bathrooms. The other thing was that our window was located the same level as the small square and stairs in front of the hotel, so, basically, if we kept the window open, anyone could look in. Though the windows are barred, have curtains and shutters, keeping them closed made quite hot and dark in the room.
But anyway I liked this hotel very much.
