I study this website before staying at a hotel and for the first time I had a little bit of trepidation before checking in. I was quite worried the hotel would be really below standard, at least I couldn't have been dissapointed!
I found the hotel to be fine, I agree with lots of the other reviews that the rooms are small and that it's not quite up to the standard of a 4* but I suppose it depends on what you want from a hotel.
We used the hotel purely as a base to go back to Brussels (for my 4th time I might add - I really love the city) and we had no problems with it.
The staff were perfectly pleasant and helped us when we needed to find the correct metro station for an attraction. Check in was swift and we had no problems there.
Our room was on the 10th floor, but we didn't have a great view - but again, why would you want to see Brussels from a hotel window. Go out and explore the place, see things close up. Everything was clean and tidy, but the minibar was a total rip off and we took nothing out of it - at least Dick Turpin wore a mask!
We went to the bar on the Saturday night for a few drinks before we went out and the staff were lovely, when they found out it was my birthday the barman gave me a glass of Leffe and wished me a happy birthday.
It's really well located, Rogier metro station is literally just outside the front door and has links to the pre-metro and the metro proper. But to be honest you could walk to the Bourse/Grand Place in about 20-25 minutes.
If, like me, you see a hotel as just a base for a stay then there is nothing wrong with this place. It was also a reasonable price. There is nothing really memorable about it, but then why go somewhere just to stay in the hotel grounds?
If you're looking for a big night out, try Le Corbeau (Close to De Broukere metro station). The size of the beer glasses and the opportunity to dance on tables makes for a great night but a terrible headache next day!

Advantages: Cleanliness, looks like a first rate hotel from the appearance.
Disadvantages: the hotel staff were rude and extremely unprofessional
Twice while waiting in the queue at the front desk (once to check in, once to get a second key for my wife), I watched as other customers approached the counter directly instead of lining up, and they would receive help first instead of being asked to join the queue. I protested--first to the customers, who didn't speak a word of English, and this was useless. When I told the hotel staff, they apologized, and asked me to get back in line! The Thon hotel staff should manage the queue by asking all customers to line up, and insist on not helping those who refuse to do so (as they do in hotels in France).

I brought a group of professionals here for a visit to Brussels EU institutions, picking the Thon mainly for its convenient location to the city centre, shops and the Metro.
The group liked it, good quality and clean, and helpful staff. Its a bit of a scrum (busy and cramped) at breakfast, but thats a minor complaint and I'd bring visitors here again.

I am very fond of Travelodge - you know exactly what you will get for an excellent price.
When I book a four star hotel - I expect a little more.
Full story below - but to summarise -
Tiny rooms - similar to Travelodge but smaller - no storage apart from wardrobe
No ice or ice bucket
no safe
internet expensive
Breakfast poor - bacon sausage etc were warm rather than hot - not much of a selection
The first room we were given had not been cleaned or made up from the last guest.
The room was quickly changed - In this room the previous guests satisfaction survey (dated two weeks earlier) had been left on the pillow - he had rated ,most things below average and had said the air conditioning was not working.
The room was tiny - about 8 feet by 13 feet plus a corridor with a small wardrobe and door to the bathroom, There were no drawers to unpack into - just a few hangers and a couple of small shelves.
The first night was hot but bearable, The air conditioning did not work - and the second night the room was so hot and stuffy that we could hardly sleep.
Went down for breakfast on the second morning and were told it was not included in our room rate (had been waved through first morning with no problem) I showed our itinerary which clearly stated that breakfast was included but were still sent to reception.
Had to show print out to prove that breakfast should be included,
Whilst there said we weren't having a very good stay because the air conditioning was not working in our room.
Was handed a piece of paper, envelope and pen and told to make my complaint in writing!
As we handed this in we were told that our room would be changed on our return. When we returned the reception staff had not been told this - but did change our room.
Still small and the fridge was dirty,
Still had to go to reception to get our breakfast on our last morning - the receptionist looked at the itinerary and checked his computer and said 'it says here that you don't get breakfast'
before handing over vouchers
Overall not impressed and would not stay here again - would rather pay less and stay at 3 star or more and stay at a proper 4 star.

I have stayed at The Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre at many occasions. This is the kind of hotel you choose if there are no other available - or you don't care as long as you have a bed waiting for you.
The good things are its location and price level. It also got so many rooms that it is never (or very seldom) fully booked.
The-not-so-good-things are
- its unpersonal touch
- depressing reception area in the basement (be careful not to bang your head in the roof!)
- very basic breakfast
- noisy rooms (even at 17th floor it was terrible with all the car-traffic and sirens from the street below)
- impossible to open window in the room
- non-functioning AC
- mini bar (what mini bar?!?)
- and being a Norwegian owned hotel: Why not any Norwegian TV-channels to choose from?
Nah. Many better bargains in the city.
