We booked this through Priceline, and were very impressed overall by the hotel. The location is excellent for seeing all the sights, and the hotel itself is gorgeous. The rooms are huge and very clean, well equipped with bathrobes, hairdryer and a great mini bar. The air conditioning is also a plus for the summer months. We arrived late one night, but the bartender still accommodated us so we could order food; the bar is beautiful with plush couches and a fabulous piano and chandelier. Breakfast was included in our rate, and had both hot and cold options.
I would highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again.

Hotel de France is fairly conveniently located, at the edge of the Innerstadt, right next to the Schottenring u-bahn station and is within 15 mins walking distance from most of the main attractions like Stephansdom, the State Opera House and the Hofsburg Palace Complex.
Rooms are good sized, but decor is dated and bare. Toilet is fairly large and amenities required of a 4-5 star hotel are generally provided. However, to rate this as a 5 star hotel is a slight stretch.
Service is attentive and staff are well trained, friendly and pleasant.
Overall a decent hotel, but interior needs updating to bring it up to a 5 star hotel standard.

My Wife and I stayed at the Hotel De France just before Christmas. The hotel was very good, and was in a superb location within walking distance to most sites and right on the tram route. The rooms very clean and tidy and the hotel staff very friendly. Breakfast in the hotel was an sophisticated experience with lots of choice and Champagne that is also part of the buffet , Vienna itself is one of the best cities I have been in and to visit during the Christmas Markets made it even better. Getting around Vienna is easy as they have an excellent transport system from busses, trams and trains that are all linked and inexpensive. However Vienna is best travelled by feet as the shops, cafes and architecture makes it a joy to walk round.

Had never been to Vienna, so this hotel was found via extensive web search - and this paid off, I paid 125 Euros per night, room only on a non refundable basis. The hotel is located about 10 minutes walk from the old town centre. My room was a huge high ceilinged affair which looked over the covered bar atrium below, well furnished and very clean. Vienna is still a smoker's paradise, but the hotel bar has smoking and non-smoking sections in it and a very talented pianist to play every evening. Others have remarked favourably on the breakfasts - these are very good on the 'continental' side, less so at the cooked end of things. Apart from the freshly cooked omelettes, the remainder is not fantastic, consisting largely of boiled eggs, congealed egg mess and shards of streaky bacon upon which it would be possible to break a tooth. It does, however, offer a couple of Japanese dishes such as miso. It is also very, very, expensive - 25 Euros a head is way over the top. Most Viennese cafes offer a continental style breakfast for around 5 - 10 Euros, so unless large plates of cold meats and marinated fish are your thing first thing in the morning, might be better to go elsewhere.
