We stayed a week at Harbour Lights resort in a 2-bedroom unit. Let's get the negatives out of the way. The roads around the resorts are tight. Large vehicles will have some difficulty if encountering another large vehicle. As for the room...first, our shower had mold where the shower wall meets the drywall. Not a little, alot (maybe 4"x2" space). Bathroom also had noticible chipped paint. Good water pressure. The 2-bedroom units are split up into one king-sized bedroom and the other bedroom has two double beds which we had (there is also a sofa-bed in the living room. I can't really comment on the room with the king-sized bed. Our room had a nice setup with plenty of closet space, a nice television and plenty of privacy from the other bedroom. The room had a VCR but it wasn't hooked up and who really needs a VCR these days anyway. The main living room had a DVD player and a shelf stereo system.
The kitchen was really nice! There was everything we could need for kitchen utensils. We were in need of a kitchen appliance that we just left for the next occupants. I heard more stories like that from other visitors there. There is also a full stacked washer and dryer combo in our room. Made drying the beach towels easy. The patio area in our room was enough for a table and four chairs. very nice if it wasn't so humid in the summer.
The recreational stuff was very nice. Three pools and three hot-tubs to choose from (two of each outside and one of each inside). The foosball table got plenty of use from us (free). There were two grills to use that we saw. One is next to "Knots", the pool/bar area and staff building. That was one nasty grill. Toss it! The other is by the clubhouse pool and it seemed in decent shape for grilling. Supply your own charcoal.
Yes, there is an old and unused outlet mall nearby, but don't let that be a concern. The area has changed dramatically this year. First, there is a Medievel Times right across the street (planned to go, but plans changed). Instead we went to the all-new Hard Rock Park which opened just last month. Now THAT is a good time. If you go there and are staying at Harbour Lights, get your tickets through the Guest Relations desk and you'll pay $38 instead of the normal $50 at the gate. I'll be giving the Hard Rock Park a stellar review. Save $10 in parking and walk there from Harbour Lights. It's an easy 5-minute walk.
One last note, only the primary guests get to park in front of the villas. Secondary guests have to park in a nearby lot, but it's next to most buildings.
Saw lots of timeshare presentation tours. Glad I did't have to suffer one of those. Existing owners still get pressured.

This resort is definitely not on the beach or even on the "strip" of Myrtle Beach but it feels like home! They have wonderful service and so many pools to choose from... the pool bar was fabulous!
This is the perfect place to stay with a larger family or for a girlfriend getaway. It is five short minutes to every where and you can walk to Hard Rock Theme Park if that is your "cup of tea."
This resort is secure and clean! This was my tenth stay at Harbour Lights and it gets better each time.

My husband and I stayed two nights at Harbour Lights in one of their hotel style rooms. The room itself was clean and "homey" feeling. Everything about the room was OK - definitely not perfect but suitable.
The pools are nice and the resort area is cohesive and safe feeling. The kids pool has fun fountains and decks for the kids to play on and also has a small snack and drink bar in the pool area. The other pool and lazy river are nice as well. We did not try the indoor pool or hot tub.
When we arrived the staff was friendly and greeted us with a quick check-in and a packet of materials to help us orient to the area and find information we might want for our stay. Though the materials were a little unprofessional, (hand written, sloppily copied, hard to read) it was still a nice gesture and we made use of what we could decipher.
Drawbacks that are not necessarily drawbacks:
The area around the resort has potential and we were told that most of it is bought up and will be developed in the coming years. Mideaval Times and the Hard Rock Park are within walking distance (walk to Hard Rock Park - it's $10 to park there and is an easy distance) but that's about it. We never did find the grocery store listed by the staff but we also didn't try very hard. But if you don't care about having to drive a little to get to things outside the park, not a big deal. In fact, if you don't mind the drive, the seclusion you have at HL might be just what you're looking for!
501 is about 3 minutes drive from the resort and it gets you to Broadway at the Beach or the ocean in good order. But if you don't want to have to drive to the ocean, this is not your place. This was fine for us because we were staying at HL to go to the Hard Rock Park but did slip down 501 to check out a few other thigns while we were in Myrtle Beach.
The hotel room was adequate for our stay with only two of us but the design of the entry into the room is flawed. The hotel style room is meant to double as an extra room to the 2 BR suite next to it, when requested and be its own separate room when not requested by the 2 BR. The 2 BR suite and hotel room share an exterior door and foyer area and the foyer has a separate door for each the 2 BR and hotel room. This is not a big deal unless your "neighbors" are running in and out of the place all night and in the morning and you don't like to the noise or your room door rattling with each slam of the exterior door. This noise and slamming started at 6:30 AM for us and continued until 9 AM as we found out later that the second round of slamming and noise was actually the cleaning people. oye vey!
Finally, Harbour LIghts had a nice, friendly atmosphere that was obviously fun for families. We enjoyed the facilities but wish that the management had enforced their posted rules about children being supervised. We don't mind traveling with kids around but don't enjoy being run over by them either. i.e. my idea of a "lazy river" does not include being slammed agains the wall by kids who are swimming in the river when the signs clearly indicate that there is to be no swimming in that area. Also, the only bar/food in the vicinity is the snack bar at the kids pool, which closes at 9. We wished that the snack bar had stayed open later or was located with the pool that stays open later.

I was amazed when I walked in to my 2bedroom unit. The room was perfect for me and my friends who came down for a mini vaction. The room was very clean and the bathrooms were great. I loved the fact that the shower was seperate from the tub. The beds were soooo comfy too......
Everyone in the hotel was very nice and very informative. They answered all my questions and if they couldn't they found out what the answer was and then called me. I also met this very sweet maitance man...I was leaving late one night (all the girls had already left) and I was kinda nervous just being a young girl walking in the dark and he was kind enough to walk me to my car. With employees like him (I think his name was Jim) this resort makes me fell very at home. I WILL BE BACK SOMETIME!!!

As I read the raving reviews of Harbour Lights, I am simply amazed! I regretablly purchased a "Sampler Package" through Bluegreen resorts. (Not a good idea - a total waste of money!) Since I couldn't get in anywhere else Bluegreen "offers", we ended up at Harbour Lights. The TINY Hotel room did NOT IN ANY WAY meet our expecatations of a standard hotel room, much less a resort! As a longtime timeshare owner (with another company) I am accustomed to better accomadations. My hasband and I were shocked to walk in and see such a small room, with NO upgrades what so ever! We were scheduled to stay from Wednesday - Sunday (already paid for) but due to the size and lack of comfort in the tiny room, we left Friday and checked into another Hotel. I was extremely dissatisfied with both Harbour Lights and Bluegreen Resorts. We would not recommend it to anyone! Also, very desolate location!
