stayed in Jul 2008
stayed in the furama resort on our honeymoon , we had planed to stay 6 nights then go to Hoi An for another 7 nights, but ended up coming back to the furama for a futher 4 nights as our hotel in Hoi An was so bad.. From the moment we arrived everything was perfect, staff made us feel most welcome, rooms were lovely , beach and pool were like wise, spa was great, the food was different to our own home food but we were in vietnam.! As for been expensive ..firstly you are staying in a five star hotel and secondly its still cheaper than our hotels at home, to me it was wort every cent. We were upgraded to an ocean suite room on our second stay, really breathtaking. There is no excuse not to have a great stay here as management goes above and beyond to make your stay as good as it can be, they really want to please the customer and it can be really seen.
I could go on... its a hotel that holds and sets standers.

Dear Readers;
Check In
I arrived at the Furama around 7:00 pm on Monday, very good hospitality, they welcome you very nicely, just sit at the sofa and a nice welcome drink and they will bring everything you need for check in. Before moving on to the room they gave me a breakfast coupon for 2 adults. I ask about breakfast for my kids 3 and 6 years old, they say no problem. Anyway I am staying until Saturday.
Breakfast
I was there for 5 days and they are serving exactly the same breakfast everyday.
For the first day I had breakfast with my kids, there is no charge. But the secong day they charge me for US$ 8 per kid. I tell them when I check in the front desk says ok, and I arguing with them and came out the restaurant manager says that children over 4 yrs old must pay for the breakfast. So end up me and the restaurant manager go to the front desk and I am telling the front desk about when I check in, they says my kids is ok without saying any charges. Guess what I got the answer from tne front desk manager : "Sorry about the misinformation that my staff tell you, I will tell my staff next time should ask the age first," Whaoo, a 5 stars hotel with so bad management. Well, I still arguing with them thats your management problem, not my problem, if you tell me when I check in, its ok I pay US$8 more. Anyway I am staying not in a standardroom, I am staying at Ocean view deluxe
that cost me US$ 250 / night. End up, you're still the loser, you still have to pay.
Expensive
While I was the the exchange rate US$ 1 = 16800 vietnam dong
While playing at the pool I ordered a beef burger for my kid cost me US$10, and it is a beef burger with just burger and a piece of meat without any lect or tomato, some fries that is cut directly from potato with the skin on it. After finishing, I get another beef burger for the same price but the beef burger come out different, now is a standard beef burger with tomato and lect, good fries that is like McDonald, very bad food standard.
Order 1 bottle of vietnam beer Larue 330 ml cost US$ 4.
Just across the street right in front on the hotel, 1 can Larue beer cost you 12,000 vietnam dong, not even US$1, go up further from the hotel will cost you about 8,000 vietnam dong.
Late check out
As we all known check out time is 12 noon.
Tuesday night around 8 pm I go to the front desk request for a late check out on Saturday, they tell me come back tomorrow, I think maybe is night time, I be back. So Wednesday morning after breakfast I was back to the front desk again request late check out, and they tell me AGAIN come back tomorrow. Ok on Thursday morning after breakfast Again I was back to the front desk requesting late check out for saturday AND unexpected answer you will not believe, they answer "Please request it on the day you check out, so is on Saturday". They should tell me on Tuesday night and not telling me to come back tomorrow.
At last, Saturday, I ussual after breakfast back to front desk requesting for late check out, now I got a respon from them, they look through the computer, waited about 10 minutes and they ask me till what time, I answer around 3 - 4pm, and they answer directly NO, if you want you must pay 50% from the room chrge.....
If you are not willing to give a late check out, just say so and not ask the guest waiting and asking what time the need. Very very disappointed with a 5 star hotel. I was so disappointed and I go to the Guest Relation and complain about everything, and I told them such a bad services and management. End up the Geust Relation call the front desk and talk to them and at last they say ok, cause my flight is 6:30pm. When I was checking out at 3pm, there is a guest come to the front desk requesting late check out for tomorrow, they say OK and will charge him US$90 until 3pm. Also while I am checking out, there is a guest just check in, he book for Oceanview Deluxe but they gave him at the ground floor (I am at the 4th floor), he is requesting for higher floor, they are telling him is full and try to shift him to a regular room at higher floor. But the guest gets angry saying he is paying for the Oceanview Deluxe, not a standard room, then the front desk look in the computer for a while and say yes to his request (For your information, when the guest requesting a higher floor, they didn't even look in to the computer and try to shift him to regular room. And fyi, while all these days I was at the front desk, there are only 1 or 2 guest there, and they have about 4 - 5 people working at the front desk).
To all there Readers, good luck staying at Furama Danang.
FYI, Crown and Hyatt Hotel is coming at Danang, HoiAn, 30 mins drive, more crowded, looks like a better place to stay.

The hotel is about 10-15 minutes from Da Nang airport. It is a typical 5 star resort hotel, and for the most part my expectations were filled. Rooms are extremely comfortable, huge beds, clean. Bathroom very clean, walk in shower. Beautiful grounds. One lagoon swimming pool, one infinity, both very clean. Beer and wine not too extortionate. Good massage facilities, decently priced. Staff very attentive and friendly. The beach is clean, the water warm. Good sporting facilities on the beach. You could be tempted not to leave the resort for the whole of the time - but as a typical 5 star resort you could be anywhere in the world, and it is a waste of travelling time and money to remain in the hotel for the duration of the stay. If you stay in the hotel for the whole of your trip you will not feel that you have been in Vietnam. The beautiful town of Hoi An is only 20-25 minutes taxi away, chaotic Da Nang 10 minutes. Taxis are quite expensive compared to other things in the country (appr 17 US to Hoi An), and make sure you have arrangments to get a taxi back, as we found ourselves in Hoi An trying to flag a taxi when there are practically no cars on the road, only motorbikes.
Staff in the hotel speak reasonable English, but English is hardly spoken in Da Nang and Hoi An, which is a challenge but they try very hard, and it is really not a problem with a bit of goodwill
There is a small nightclub which was OK (and again, drinks reasonably priced), but extremely noisy.
The only other thing I did not like too much was the food. It was on the whole quite westernised, although the barbecues were very good. However this may have been down to the fact that we were travelling in a large group, so I do not feel qualified to comment on the overall standard.
I enjoyed my stay there, and would probably stay there again, partly due to the fact that the Vietnamese people are one of the most friendly people I have come across. At the moment the area is still fairly uncommercialised with only a handful of resorts along the coast - however there is extensive building work from the hotel to Hoi Ann (not visible or in earshot of the hotel), with names such as Hyatt building resorts there, and I feel that the whole area may lose some of its charm within a few years.
Definitely to be recommended as long as you do not confine yourself to the hotel for the duration or you will miss out !
