I was immediately at ease as soon as we walked up the sidewalk and caught out first sight of the Hotel Engimatt. The exterior is clean, modern and beautiful with huge potted hydrangias flanking the front door. The hotel is the perfect balance of traditonal and modern. The lobby is very fresh with modern funishings, a cool fountain, and a very modern elevator. The reception area is upstairs and is equally lovely and staffed with the most helpful emplyees. My favorite restaurant experience on this trip to Europe was here. The garden restaurant is outstanding and the atmosphere is beautiful. Take a stroll over to the pond and have a relaxing drink next to the water, it is delightful. Our room was very large (for three) and had nice bath toiletrees. The room had airconditioning (much needed due to heat wave) and the bed was very comfortable. The funishings were a bit dated but that is the only negative. Location... I loved the location. We were able to walk to the lake and to old town without much effort. I was delighted to stay in a residential area. It was beautiful and had no traffic noise to keep us awake at night. There is a large mall just around the corner with numerous restaurants, cafes, etc. The tram line is a half block from the front door which takes you straight to the main part of Zurich but again, we walked with no difficulty.

Not a good location for any tourist destination in Zurich. Also far from any shops, should you want to sit down for a cup of coffee, or buy a pastry or an apple. Hotel restaurant and room service exhorbitantl. On the bright side: the room was well appointed and had a terrace facing the garden, whith a table and chairs; there was an Nessporesso machine..Also, there was a free internet on the second floor, where their conference rooms are located.

We stayed in the Engimatt for 2 nights at the beginning of May. At first, there was a minor irritation in that we were greeted by renovation works on the reception area. This was somewhat of a surprise because on the Opodo website it said that the hotel had been renovated in 2005. So when I booked I was pretty sure that we would not be disturbed by building works. As it worked out it was of little inconvenience. The double room we had was spotlessly clean, albeit a little on the small side. The bathroom was of a good size. All staff were extremely helpful. On our first night we ate in the restaurant and the excellent service was backed up by excellent food. One of the best meals I had had in some time. There is a good shopping complex with cinemas within walking distance and it is also just a few mintues walk to the nearest tram line. Hop on a tram and you are minutes away from central Zurich. Tip: If you are staying for 24 or 72 hours and intend to travel on public transport a Zurich card is well worth the money. CHF 17 p.p for 24 hrs and gives you unlimited travel within central Zurich (and a boat trip on the lake)

Was here for about a week at the begining of February 2008. Hotel is in a residential setting. It is a short walk to old town, the lake, the train station, etc (about 15 minutes to the train station). Hotel was clean, and the porch was a nice addition. The room I had was very large. Internet was quite expensive. And, there was no way to get free wireless if you paid for wired-access in your room. The food in the hotel is good. the meetings staff was ok, but there were some issue. It may have been a language barrier. I would be willing to stay again, but I don't know that I would book it for a meeting.
