Great hotel in a fantastic location. First visit to Barcelona - we would definately go back, and would cetainly stay in the same Hotel again.
The staff are all so friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Our room was great - and vey quiet, breakfast was lovely.
We would recommend using the barcelona tour bus to get a good overview of the city.

My wife & I stayed at the Hotel Montecarlo for two nights at the end of June. It is as good as other reviewers have stated (thank you). We were coming off a cruise so we would arrive at the hotel early in the day so I had emailed the hotel ahead of time to confirm they would have a luggage lock-up we could use (they had replied that they did). However, upon our arrival at about 10:00 am, presumably knowing we were arriving early, they informed us that they had our room ready. Impressive service! We got an updated room which was a little plain (art-deco-ish style) compared with many hotels we've stayed at, but very tastefully done. The bathroom was excellent, which is something that you don't always see in Europe. We had no problem with the dual beds making up the king-size bed that other reviewers have mentioned. The staff were great, explaining the various features of the room like the electric blinds, air conditioning and beds and they handed us some useful tourist books without our even asking. The room was clean, quiet and well maintained. What more could you ask for? We had the 11 Euro breakfast one morning, which was ok but about the only thing I would not rate as "exceptional".
This was our first visit to Barcelona and I was amazed at how good a location this hotel has. Besides being on La Ramblas, it is also near Placa Catalunya which is a transportation hub, if not the hub of the city. The Metro, buses, airport bus and city tour buses are just a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. When we sadly left, we took the airport bus from there which only costs 4 Euros and 5 cents each. Overall, this hotel deserves its high rating.

We read the reviews on Hotel Montecarlo on Trip Advisor and decided that it looked good. Well, we were not disappointed. This was truly a 5 star hotel experience. The staff were attentive, friendly, kind, and went out of their way to accomodate us.
I had been bicycling in Girona, Spain before arriving in Barcelona. Before arriving I emailed the hotel and asked if I could store my bike there while my wife and I traveled throughout Spain. They promply said yes. Upon arriving in the taxi I was met by one of the hotel staff who carried my bike inside ,indicating that he knew I was coming and that I had a bike with me. He reassured me the bike would be stored safely and securely. I was stunned that they remembered and how efficiently they handled the bike and storage.
This was how our stay was here the entire time. We stayed a total of 5 days.
Our room was quiet, clean, and beautiful. We asked the staff for several restaurant recommendations and they supplied us with delicious choices. No tourist traps. Each time we departed and arrived we were greeted warmly.
The hotel is in a fantastic location. We walked everywhere we needed to go. Even though it is on the Ramblas I did not hear any noise from the street.
The brunch in the a.m. was a real deal. Food and ambience is great and a very good value.
My only criticism of the hotel is the lack of non smoking rooms. I am super sensitive to smoke and even though the rooms were smoking I could not detect any smoke anywhere. I was nervous about this at first but as soon as I was in the room I smelled nothing.
What a huge difference it makes when you travel and you stay at a hotel that is as welcoming, friendly, and professional at the Montecarlo. The staff deserve high marks. This number one rated trip advisor hotel lived up to its ranking.
I highly recommend this hotel for your Barcelona stay. They are number one.

Location, location, location.
Excellent hotel and staff.
Only one minor complaint-Slippery fiberglass Jacuzzi tub in Room 209.
