Working in Dusseldorf for a few weeks and have stayed in four hotels. This was by far the best of them all. Some rooms are quite small, but others are enormous, not sure how you book one of these or whether it is pot luck. I honestly cant fault this hotel, because of one very big reason. The staff! they are simply superb, extra helpful, and very very warm kind people. Their English is absolutely superb for one thing. You just know some people are faking the friendliness, well these arent they are genuinely nice lovely helpful friendly folks, with a kind of warmth you need when you are in a far off land. I would absolutely return here again and again. The hotel itself is kind of arty, definitely not an identikit hotel, and that for me is a major bonus. The breakfast is also very nice, with a well-stocked extensive selection. More extensive than the sheraton at the airport. Having stayed in hundreds of hotels over the years, this is possibly my favourite.
To those people who own and run Kastens, Well done, You have a fantastic little establishment. Ill be coming back.

I've stayed at Kastens due to a business travel to Dusseldorf. I should say that I was expecting more from a 4 stars hotel and wonder who controls this qualification.
The room size was OK, decoration not bad but simple. The room wasn’t comfortable. There wasn't a comfortable chair or sofa in the room. The bathroom was poor and the complimentary kit was just a …shower cap! There’s a dispenser for liquid soap near the lavatory and in the shower and the soap is so bad that reminds us of old railway stations…. The bath towels are small and need urgent renewal
Breakfast is not exciting at all; the personal is nice and helpful but just normal bread (which is not of great quality) and not even croissants available!
I’ve stayed at Kastens for 4 nights, and would prefer not to stay there again.
