We just returned from Paris and a short two night stay at the Melia Vendome. The location of this hotel is perfect for sightseeing and for catching the Metro.
We were treated wonderfully by the staff upon arrival and the porter talked us through how to use the heat and other things about the room.
The room was larger than most in Paris and frankly better appointed than many in Paris and London. The bathroom ammenities were excellent. That said, no washcloths were provided.
The staff was most helpful. On my request they called and confirmed our car to CDG Airport. They all spoke English, including the restaurant staff.
I would recommned this hotel to friends and will return.

We stayed at the Melia Vendome for 10 days recently (Nov 2007) and came back very disappointed with the hotel facilities and overall service.
Let me just start by saying that on our second night we were awaken by a couple of mice that were trying to binge on some the flakes of a left over croissant (the bag was in a trash can). After making the front desk aware of this situation, they responded as lazily as if I had just requested an extra set of sheets.
The rooms (we tried 2 different ones) are poorly ventilated and have no air conditioning. You need to keep the windows open almost the entire time or the room will quickly get warm. And since we were afraid of mice jumping in from an open window, we just were uncomfortable the whole time.
The hotel had two very claustrophobic elevators that could fit two people very tightly (almost like touching each other). So you wouldn’t want to take the elevator with a stranger. One of elevators seemed to be broken and did not go to our floor (the 5th floor) so we had to go to the 6th and walk down one floor.
One evening, we headed down to relax in the small, dark, bar lounge of the hotel and also came away very disappointed. Service was very mediocre at best. Wine/aperitif selection very poor. They did not have a Dubonet or Lille for us to try… I mean you are in Paris at a hotel situated a few blocks away from La Madeleine, Louvre Museum, …
The Spanish-speaking staff is somewhat uncompromising and very unattentive. You need to basically stress what you need/want for them to pay attention. There's no concierge or any type of guide other than the standard, often-low-quality set of tourist brochures.

I agree with the favorable review of this hotel posted May 15, 2007.
I spent more time than usual searching for an acceptable hotel in Paris. Most of the 4* hotels I considered offered good deals on their websites, which I would recommend checking out, in addition to the major travel gateway sites you normally do. That said, the hotels seem to release their inventory to consolidators at about one month out, so if you wait too long in anticipation of a last-minute price drop, you’ll end up with zero availability (and higher prices, for some reason).
My (standard) room was on the first floor (above the lobby), which I liked because it was accessible by stairway. The elevators are *really* small and not particularly fast, and if I stayed there again, I would definitely request a room I could walk to. The room was basic but not at all shabby and certainly above satisfactory…but not luxurious. It was small, but not tiny, and very clean. Closet space was more than sufficient, but it needed to be since the room had no dresser. The bathroom was larger than one would expect, and well-appointed…lots of marble.
Three complaints. First, I could never get the heater to work. Second, completely separate from the bathroom, the toilet has its own incredibly cramped room that is not designed for anyone taller than six feet. Finally, an Internet connection will run you €23/day; I found this expensive compared to the other hotels I had researched.
The hotel staff deserves special mention. Without exception, they were friendly, helpful, professional and polite. Their English was better than my French.
In my opinion, the Melia Vendome is a 3½-star property (a notch closer to four than three, though), and I would happily stay there again. The hotel is ideally located in what I feel is the best tourist area in Paris, because it is both upscale and perfectly centered. With cooperative weather, you can walk to most of the places you’re likely to visit. Or you can take the metro: Concorde and Madeleine are each just 2-3 (short) blocks away.

I stayed at the Melia Vendome Boutique Hotel with my wife for our 10th anniversary in October 2007. We had been to Paris before and had stayed at the Hotel Burgundy once (3 star) and the Georges V (infinity stars), so I was looking for something in between spartan and over the top. (We were travelling with 2 other people who did not want to blow their entire budget on hotel rooms.)
First let me say that Paris in October is usually very temperate, this year the first week it was abnormally warm and there was not really any relief from the heat, except opening the windows, which were right above the street. Unfortunately it was fashion week and the streets near the hotel were very busy each night. (The upside to fashion week was that many of the yet to be discovered models were staying at the hotel.)
The common areas; bar, lobby and breafast area are very nicely appointed. The staff were very hospitable; speaking French does help although my wife is not able to speak French and she did not experience anything but friendliness from the staff.
The elevators are; as previously mentioned, incredibly small, but for the simple reason that the building itslf was built in the 1820's and the elevators were retrofitted and could only be accomodated in the current configuration.
The rooms themselves are very small, no dressers to be found, so unpacking can be an experience. We did not experience any issues with cleanliness, however. The bathrooms are larger than many 4 star Paris hotel equivalents.
Do not try to order drinks up to the room, or ice for that matter. After the second day, where we had waited in vain for 1 hour and 45 minutes respectively, we decided that if we wanted to have a before dinner cocktail, it would have to be at the bar; which itself was quite nice.
Breakfast is fairly standard Paris fare; scrambled eggs, fruit, pastries etc along with its intendant high price (20 Euros apiece). The pastries are fantastic, but it truly is difficult to find bad pastries in Paris anywhere.
A note about taxis. It appears that unless you are pre-booking an airport run, getting a taxis from hotels in Paris (for dinner for example), is subject to a very rigid pecking order. We waited a few evenings for over 40 minutes in vain for a taxi called by the hotel, but eventually were forced to hoof it to the Metro and travel to a 3 star Michelin restaurant in evening clothes.
But ah.... the Metro; a three minute walk to Concorde, on the #1 line (which goes up the Champs Elysees in one direction and out to Chateau de Vincennes in the other and a five minute walk to Madelaine station on # 8 line. The must visit Fauchon and Hediard food shops are in the PLace de la Madelaine and Gallerie Lafayette, Paris' flagship departement store are all very close. Virtually all of Paris is within minutes from this hotel, and this is why I believe it keeps its 4th star. You would be hard pressed to find a more reasonably priced hotel in this hotel class in a better location. For the well healed, Churchill's Bar at the Ritz is a 3 minute walk (out the back door of the Melia and in the back door of the Ritz).
All in all, while the Melia Vedome is a tad disappointing in the room department, its location and staff friendliness make it a very viable choice for a Paris vacation.
