My partner and I were visiting Hanoi on business and the Melia was very well situated for the part of the city we needed to be in.
The hotel is heavily used by tour groups which led to congestion in the dinning room and the front lobby in early morning and evening, the rooms are standard European but with the extra space associated with hotels in S.E. Asia.
Breakfast is varied to suit western and eastern taste, we didn't eat any other meals in the hotel but there was an international style restaurant.
Probably our best experience with the Malia was we had to travel out of the city for a night and left our luggage with the concierge, when we returned they told us the hotel was fully booked but that they had moved us to a suite at no extra cost, what an experience, it really was a splendid finale to out trip!.
We are returning to Hanoi in the Autumn and I expect to stay at the Melia again (In a standard room of course)

I booked for 3 nights through one of the Asian online booking services, and the rate included taxes, service fees, and breakfast.
I found the room to be clean and comfortable.
The breakfast buffet was fine, although trying to get some coffee out of the employees was always a chore. This attitude problem seems to pervade Vietnam.
I enjoyed the lobby lounge and bar in the evening; there always was a pleasant crowd as this is a conference hotel.
There was a tour desk that sold over-priced day tours of the city and its environs. Being over-priced seems to be a pecularly Vietnamese characteristic.
The location of the hotel leaves a lot to be desired in the evening. One night after dinner I attempted to take a walk: all was practically dark in one direction. I walked in the other direction but found hardly any stores or shops open. This was at nightfall, perhaps 7 or 7:30pm.
Basically, a nice hotel in the wrong country.

Wonderful hotel set in south of the lake.
The service was outstanding from the moment we arrived at the front door to checking out. The staff are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble
The room was large, and very comfortable.

It is certainly a popular confernce hotel. During my stay there, there were at least 2 international conferences going on each day and you often saw a crowd during rush hours (breakfast and lunchtime in particular) in resturant or in lifts. The food is fine, breakfast is ok and the lunch buffet is good. Free mineral water is provided in room. The room is spacious and the service is good. The hotel is near a major road in downtown which means traffic noise starts in early morning. It is not in the major shopping area and no interesting shops or restaurants nearby, but it is easy to reach the shopping area by car in minutes (during non-rush hour).
