This hotel has beautiful tropical gardens with a lovely view of the snowcapped Teide Volcano, friendly service, and is located in a quiet area away from downtown Puerto de la Cruz, but with easy access to the beach via shuttle bus or taxi (one can walk, as well, but it's uphill all the way to come back).
You definitely want a room with a balcony facing onto the gardens!
With its black volcanic beaches, the famous Martianez Pools (designed by architect Cesar Manrique), and the Loro Parque zoo, Puerto de la Cruz is a great place to go with children. We had a wonderful family holiday there, and would go back in a heartbeat.

Having arrived here with my wife at 23.00 hrs 25/04/08 we were promptly dropped off the bus and left. After trundling cases down the stairs we were greeted by a frosty receptionist who offered no help what so ever. Show me your passports and you go here to the dreaded room 47.
No outlook, below road level, get ready in the dark to go out, dead coachroach on the toilet floor but wait for it dampness on the ceiling and walls in two areas. (How impressive is that for starters) and a four star hotel!
Seen the Rep on Sat the 26/04...and you will have to wait till the following Wednesday. Four star hotel.....your having a laugh. More like two star.
Restaurant.....same stuff no variation. Ate out most of the time, probably cheaper and more friendlier. If you like Germans head here in April, you wont be disappointed.
Grounds lovely, some nice waiters, entertainment basic.
Will we return? No way. There are better Hotels in the vacinity where we can spend our Euros.

Our ground floor 3 bed room was the biggest ever, 28 feet long from front door to patio, it seemed newly refurbished as everything looked new. The maids had made a beautiful origami style swan out of a towel & placed it on the bed with flowers. Also a bowl of fruit & bottle of complimentary wine. We were well impressed to say the least altho not every room was like this apparently & some also face the road. Ask for room 112!
Some revuers of this hotel complain of gloomy rooms & this certainly applied to ours as there was a tropical garden front & back with ferns & palms & an ornamental pool with ducks ten feet from the patio! & the ducks sometimes paid us a visit.
Dating from the 1960's this hotel certainly doesn't look its age altho the trees have now mostly soared above rooftop height so if your window or balcony faces trees it will cut out the light but it beats looking at concrete any day & we thought it looked fantastic. Showing anyone photo's taken from the door of our room gives the impression that its in the middle east somewhere rather than Spain.
The Restaurant takes getting used to, Definately avoid the first hour as there will be a big queue of Germans waiting for tables, an hour or so later & you will soon be shown to a table, the waiters work tirelessly to reset a table a soon as its vacated in order to get people seated as soon as possible.
There are a number of pretty cats that live in the garden & these are not ferral but are cared for & fed properly, also caged parrots are wheeled out each day. All in all a very different hotel to others we have been in

We booked a last minute deal through Thomas Cook and within 5 hours of booking were on our way to the airport for our honeymoon!
We arrived at the north of the island, pleasantly suprised by the landscape, and were encouraged by the initial sight of the hotel.
It has very well looked after gardens with examples of flora from all over the world. The hotel itself is in very good condition and is as equally well maintained and cleaned as its gardens.
It had good facilities, pool and bar, evening bar for the nightly entertainment, two restaurants, a shop, kids club, internet facilities and adjoined the English Library from where temporary memberships could be obtained (2 week minimum).
The hotel was only 15 mins walk from the seafront of Puerto de la Cruz , (up and down a steep hill) which had a good number of shops, restaurants and bars. One of the Island's best attractions, the Loro Parque was also located there, for all your green parrot needs. It also had very impressive, dolphin, orca and sea lion shows as well as a host of other animals.
The majority of the other guests were somewhat older than my bride and I, often by 20-30 years, which was reflected by the very relaxed and peaceful atmosphere, as opposed to the 18-30s holidays in the south of the island. We enjoyed that as we were able to relax during our stay and do things at our own pace. There was a healthy mix of British, Spanish and German guests, which made for entertaining people watching on occasion.
The food in the restaurant was pleasantly varied from day to day, with a mix of local/spanish cuisine, mixed with old favourites from home (UK/Germany).
The staff almost to a man/woman were very helpful and friendly. Not sure what happened to their bar staff, but they were at least efficient.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time out there and are strongly considering returning in the future.
