Excellent Hotel--Great Views and Location
Guest name: IAD777, Washington, DC
Stayed on the club floor in a really nice room with stunning views of Quito. Bathrooms are large and elegant. The bed was extremely comfortable. Location is quite good, but it's the views of Quito that make this property a gem. Also the service was good.
Amazing service!

This is an amazing place. We stayed here for 2 nights before leaving for Galapagos. The service is the best we have had anywhere in South America so far. The hotel employees are friendly, helpful and accommodating. The rooms are very well equipped (every modern convenience including an ipod alarm/charger, flat screen tv, stereo, DVD player etc). The reception was full of beautiful roses and free internet access was available in a suite specifically for that purpose. Beds are very comfortable and the views of the city and the mountains around are breathtaking. Breakfast was the best we have had anywhere, the choice and the quality of the food were excellent. The location (in a new area of the city) was of little significance to us as we had a private city tour already planned and were recovering from jet lag. The gym was well equipped and there is also a spa. I would not hesitate to recommend this as an excellent hotel. I cannot comment on value for money as it was booked through a travel agent.

We stayed at the Swisotel for four nights in May,2008 before departing to the Galapogas, Islands. While we paid about $165.00 a night including taxes and a great bountiful breakfast, the room was booked by Ecoventura, the agency we used in touring the Galapagos Islands.
The hotel is a large "American" business style hotel with a lot of amenities and not a lot of character. There are some very nice features about the hotel. They included a wonderful large buffet breakfast (for which they normally charge $20.00 pp) which included just about everything you might want--fresh fruits, cheeses, meats, sweets etc. There also is a very nice fitness center which is open from about 8:00 a.m.- 10:00 p.m. The late hours are particularly convenient since the hotel advises you not to be on the streets after dark. The location is about a 15 minute walk to the center of New Town and in an unremarkable area. The staff was pleasant and very accommodating in answering questions. There also is a fully staffed business center with computer service available at a reasonable price. The hotel is about two blocks away (towards town) from a fully stocked super market. So if you do not want to pay the $ 2.50 for water the hotel charges, you can get water there for about 25 cents as well as other provisions. We also ate at a very nice restaurant, called Mare Nostrum about a 1/4 mile from the hotel. Besides breakfast, we did not eat , except for one light lunch in any of the five hotel dining rooms. The lobby is filled with absolutely exquisite roses of various colors which make quite a show.
There are a few negatives. The hotel is located in an unremarkable area about a 20 minute walk from the center of New Town. There is little of interest immediately around the hotel.
There is not a large area around the outdoor portion of the swimming pool and very few chairs. Its location also does not get much sun. The fitness room is open to outsiders so it can sometime be somewhat busy.
The hotel seems to run its own fleet of taxis which while clean, new and always available charge more than double the going rate of taxis on the street (which also are almost always readily available). However, "double" is about $ 4.00 to the San Francisco church as opposed to under $ 2.00 as the "real" street rate. The room, while modern and "newish" was certainly showing signs of wear The cleaning service of the room leaves a bit to be desired.
Since we did not pay the hotel directly, I can not speak about the cmpetitiveness of the rates. I can tell you it is definitely in a better location than the J.W. Marriott, with which it is often compared.
If you are in Quito for a relatively short period of time and want to hang out in Old Town, you might look at another location as Old Town is not walkable from the hotel. It is about a 15 minute taxi ride.
We found the staff as well as the people of Quito to be very friendly and helpful. However, this is very much like a large big city Sheraton or Hilton American hotel.

Incredible Service!

This is a truly wonderful hotel. I don't believe we've ever had better service anywhere. As soon as we left the baggage area of the airport we saw a gentleman holding a sign with our name on it. We literally were whisked away in a mercedes. When we entered the lobby of the hotel I was amazed at the HUGE displays of roses. Some must have had a couple hundred. Each one was a different type and color. From out of nowhere a man carrying a silver tray offered us warm, moist towels and glasses of wine. And then another offered me a beautiful long stemmed rose. This was all happening before we even checked in! We had a suite and it was just lovely. It had 1 and 1/2 baths an incredibly comfortable bed, complimentary wine, fruit, and candy. Also included was a trip back to the airport, free internet service on an executive floor, and complimentary cocktails each night. Oh, and breakfast: An amazing buffet of every fruit and juice you could think of, dozens of pastries. hot items, smoked fish, you name it. And the price for all of this? About $200. On top of this we wanted to take a private city tour. They arranged this for us and our guide, Paul met us in the lobby. This was the first time we had ever had a guide and we were so glad that we did. Quito would be really difficult to drive in if you were just visiting and Paul took us everywhere we wanted to go. We wanted to see a market and he pointed out fruits and vegetables that we had never even heard of. He took us into tiny little stands that sell homemade candies and grains. And he told us where to go to buy beautiful jewelry that was so inexpensive. I highly recommend The Sofitel and a tour with Paul. Here's his contact information. [-]

Stayed at this large hotel in central Quito for five nights (not consecutive) as part of a tour of Ecuador and Galapagos. Staff were wonderful; friendly and helpful without being servile. The hotel itself is operated to a very high, international, standard. All public spaces are very clean and beautifiully decorated with huge displays of roses. The rooms are comfortable and equipped to a high standard. There are several restaurants - the three we tried served excellent food, especially the Steak House. Breakfast was a buffet with a good selection and eggs cooked to order, alongside some more unsual offerings. Overall, highly recommended.
