What a disappointment this grand hotel turned out to be....small, old fashioned, musty rooms with outdated fussy soft furnishings. Our lake side room was uncomfortable and only adequately clean. The wall paper, furniture etc looked scuffed and battered and could not have been recently modernised as advised by the front desk. The only positive thing to mention about our disappointing room was the neat coffee maker which would have been lovely ....only no milk, coffee, sugar etc had been left by housekeeping!! A small housekeeping mistake yes, but it added to an already nightmarish ‘Faulty Towers’ experience.
The Mirror bar had no atmosphere at all and was very smoky (we were advised the smoking ban is introduced in Switzerland July 08)
Have to say the staff were pleasant enough but totally unsympathetic to our requests.
Overall therefore a hugely disappointing experience not to be repeated or indeed recommended –especially at the exorbitant prices they charge.
This is 2 star quality for 5 star tariffs.

The location is perfect but hotel seems to be resting on that more than their rooms. My room was very small, even by European standards, and dimly lit. The desk was almost unusable due to proximity to the curtains(ie the curtain hung over the desk). The room was clean and most everything was in working order but for a 4/5 star hotel I felt that the decor was worn and needed updating. Addiotionaly the bathroom(which was good sized) was outfitted in a very cheap manner for a high end hotel. I guess for the price I expected more.

This is without doubt, one of my third, or even fourth choices when staying in Geneva. Typically I'm at the Hotel du Rhone. Unfortunately, every time I go back here to give these guys another chance, I'm bitterly disappointed. Staying here now as the Rhone is renovating their conference rooms, and we booked the some conference rooms here, so decided to stay here as well.
1) Perhaps not the hotels problem, but access and parking outside is terrible. The hotel is on a 4 lane higway on the front door, and a bus lane on the back.
2) No matter what time of the day or night you arrive at the hotel, you are confronted with a smog of cigarette smoke drifing down from the bar. Out of drinking hours (i.e. during the morning, or early afternoon) when fewer people are smoking, the place still smells like a poorly ventilated night club.
3) Noise. During the day there is constant road noise from the front of the hotel.
4) Decor. Not sure when it was in fashion, perhaps the late 1960's? But it does need a major renovation.
5) This time round I was in one of the smallest double rooms I've ever had. Last time I was here about a month ago, I had a small suite. It was OK, except that the furniture and decor reminded me of a 1940's black and white movie. Everything is old and you worry that you'll break something.
6) I don't think I've seem plumbing and bathroom fixtures like they have here since I used to stay at my Grandmothers house as a child.
7) Dull, dour, and unresponsive staff.
This is certainly not a five star hotel.
The only two things going for this place are the very cheerful staff behind the reception desk (was I just very lucky?), and you get a really nice coffee machine in your room. (But not enough of the coffee capsules)!
