Positives - hotel location was great, the porter was very helpful and courteous, the room size was ample for the 4 of us, the concierge was helpful in finding good restaurants, the beds were very comfortable, the doorman got cabs immediately when we needed them, adequate security on the premises, overall clean room with nice linens
Negatives - always hectic, loud, and crowded in the lobby, the door to our room was paper thin (we heard everything in the hall), our bathtub didn't drain properly, the bathroom was clean but needed an update, the air conditioner could have been colder, the computer in the lobby to obtain our airline boarding passes wasn't working but the staff was helpful in printing it for us
This hotel was booked for us as part of a travel package. Although I am sure many other hotels in the area are nicer, the convenience of this location makes it attractive for tourists.

I spent two nights at the Sheraton New York on business. I had a standard, unrefurbished room on the 14th Floor.
Pluses:
Public areas give the impression of a classy hotel. Service at breakfast was exceptional - friendly and nothing was too much bother.
Check-in through the kiosk was efficient and quick after a long day and a long flight in.
Good to be able to make a cup of tea in the room.
Location is good - handy for Central Park, Times Square, Broadway etc.
Minuses:
Room was shabby and small, the sort of quality I pay $60 while on vacation in France - room rate here was $345 a night. Room hadn't been updated in many years and felt very basic and with a musty smell. Air conditioning was efficient but of the 1970's variety. Overall it felt extremely ordinary.
Overall
I think Sheraton are taking advantage of high demands for rooms in NYC to deliver a very substandard product here. Having stayed in many Starwood properties this was by some stretch the worst and has affected my view of the way they value their customers. Although it's only fair to say that colleagues on the same trip who stayed at the nearby Hilton had similar comments to make about their property.

i expected this hotel to be a lot nicer than it was. yes the staff was friendly, but the hotel was very very busy and had to always wait for a packed elevator. we opened our door to our 6th floor room and were like i guess we are paying for the size of room which was nice for nyc. it was very plain. the beds were hard and the room wasn't cool enough. our shower was clogged so we had to stand in 3 inches of water to shower. the worst part was that our room was next to the elevators. we heard DING DING all night and all the people getting on and off talking. paper thin doors.
they did offer us to leave our baggage while we waited for our room to be ready. when we checked out we proceeded to get our car from the garage. we had do drive back to philadelphia to catch a flight. we had to wait 30 minutes to get our car. only 2 people working and 30 people waiting. it was very frustrating.
over all, an ok hotel, not worth it unless you get a great deal. great location though with a a lot of cabs waiting always.
