Solid, if not 5 stars..

Similar to one of the reviews below, I would not call the Sheraton Mirage a 5 star resort by any stretch, but it's a workhorse, and the beachfront gives it an edge.
Negatives:
~The place needs a major facelift, if not full reconstructive surgery. They say it's 20 yrs old, and it definitely looks it. From the lobby to the lounges to the pools to the pool bar, they need to take a look at other 5 star hotels and make some adjustments to keep it from looking so tired.
~Pools/Lagoons: Pretty ridiculous. They have tons and tons of decorative pool space and lagoons that could be used for so much more. Most of the pools, while dated are at least painted blue on the bottom so they look decent. However, the lagoons look like swamps with swans and ducks, and the feathers and garbage that go along with it---plus they're litterally pea green/brown.
~Cleanliness--Partly because of the lack of the remodel, but the lawns, the rooms, and most of the place doesn't feel that fresh and clean..
~Resturant costs--the buffet, especially the breakfast, is really overpriced at $40/person. Skip this and walk across the street via bridge to the shopping center that has three very good breakfast cafes.
Positives:
~Everything works well...Internet is great, solid in-room movies, pool bar, restuarants, bell, concierge, room service--all work.
~The beach--fantastic. Very easy access, lifeguards, and just a fabulous convenient beach
~Service--Everyone is extremely helpful and courteous. Rooms are cleaned when you need them, front desk and concierge will get you anything you want.
~The resort location--gives you access to the beach, 5 minutes to Surfer's Paradise, and within an hour or less of theme parks, zoos, Hinterland, and the great shopping mall across the street.
~Family friendly---it was perfect and we had a 4 and a 2 yr old.
Overall, I would give the Mirage a 4 out of 5. We had drinks one night at the Versace Pallazo, and that place on the surface is definitely nicer and classier although a bit uptight. But with the beach access and kids with us we would likely choose to go back to the Mirage.

I absolutely loved the location of this property which as the website says is the only 5 star resort located right on the beach. It is far enough from Surfers to give you a feeling of isolation and has beautiful gardens and landscaping to add to the resort feel. The surf beach is right outside the gate and well supervised by lilfeguards. stayed in two different rooms at this property. The first room was still very 1990s themed in decore as other reviewers have described but I found it absolutely fine for a business trip. The second room I tried was Ocean Premium and very nicely decorated. Staff were friendly and helpful from front desk to cleaners. I would happily stay again

The property is well maintained. I stayed in an un-renovated room which meant older decor, regular tv (not flatscreen) and a bathroom from what seemed like the early 90's.
Service was overall quite good and the public spaces (and water features) are really nice. I was there for business and felt like the service and amenities were adequate. Great location as it is a bit removed from the hustle of surfers paradise and connected by walkway with an upscale mall/dining area. Beach access is superb and the pool is well kept, busy, and the resort's centerpiece.
Health facility can be a bit hard to find at first, as it is a separate business connected to the resort. Of course, no additional fee for resort guests. Lap pool (as opposed to the resort pool) is olympic size and nice and quiet. The gym is well maintained and fairly large.
in room dining is above average, although the prices are too.

As nearby Brisbanites this is one of our favourite nearby escapes on the Gold Coast. We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions over a number of years.
The location of this hotel is on prime real estate and I think it is very relaxing - you do feel like you are staying at a beautiful, if not dated, resort. This quiet sanctuary is a three level resort (read: most rooms would not have ocean views and those that do are still low set and more expensive). For a resort escape and rare Gold Coast privacy I can certianly recommend this hotel.
The refurbishment process has been long overdue and seems to be taking an extremely long time to complete. We thought the long anticipated and requested 'new rooms' (when we booked) were disappointing - we were expecting more wow. We thought the updated rooms certainly did not meet international standards and we thought they were done on the cheap. New bed linen, wall hangings and coats of paint can only achieve so much. The rooms are still huge, and combined with the wonderful location and service, the resort still lives up to its 5-star reputation. It's a shame the Sheraton has not strived for more considering the absolute premier and private location of this resort hotel - afterall, it's all about location, location, location. I'm sure the Versace hotel on the opposite 'poorer' side is more than envious of the Sheraton's beach-side location (not to mention the size of the Sheraton's rooms, compared to Versace, - speaking from experience). However, if it is more glamour you want stay at Versace.
Anyhow, we still love our visits to this hotel. It is so relaxing but the Sheraton could learn alot from the best Asian hotels but would no doubt have prices to match. We'll be back though. Enjoy.
