Stayed the past weekend at Sheraton Stockholm. Hotel is under refurbishment but that is not a problem. New rooms are elegantly equipped and nice to see that details like plugs in the desk, kettle and iron and iron board is available without calling room service. Paying less during the summer and booking last minute, you still do not expect to loose out on standard five star amenities like the bathrobe and slippers. Nor the refill of bathroom amenities when they run out. Also, think the housekeeping need to keep up, dusty rooms and clearly not cleaned after the builders left. Front office is nice but to be checked in late on Friday by clearly an unintrested, uniform with hanging mobile phone and the latest range of pens all over the jacket is hardly what you expect from the re-born Sheraton. To mention the door man was not to be seen and on Sunday I think Gunnar wanted rather to escape the guests than to approach them. Final touch was the bar last order that was spot on 00.30 on Saturday, even if Sweden has a strong alcohol law, staying at The Grand Stockholm not long ago, this did not happen. Sheraton has forgotten that they are not a Scandic, think they should re-think their strategy in Stockholm and make something of what I think is a very elegant and appealing design. But without the bells and whistles, this will not go far and they will stay where they were perhaps at the opening 1972 or what year it was.

Combination of business and pleasure trip so chose this hotel for its location which was just as well as its proximity to the old part of the city was its only good feature. This is not to say that we found much wrong with the place, it was just very uninteresting but then a closer look at the exterior gives a pretty good impression of how uninspiring the hotel is generally.
The reception area was bright enough in a clinical way but once up on the accomodation floors and the rooms themselves were really quite bleak and not worth the money. We had breakfast out everyday rather than pay the rip off prices in the hotel (and I was on expenses too!) Interesting quad in the centre of the hotel currently occupied by a grim piece of sculpture could be made into a really nice outside bar or similar but presently is reminiscent of Benedorm on a grey day.
One plus point for ice machine by the lifts.

When we arrived they gave us a twin instead of a double. When I got back downstairs, the receptionist explained that the hotel was almost fully booked, but if we paid 30 euros more each day, they could find us a double room! Isn’t that a bit contradictory?
During our visit we also had sauna, but even though it says it is warm 24 h, it wasn’t. The shower in the women’s sauna was out of order and it seemed been like that some time. There was no slippers and no bathrobe in the room, maybe there is if you get a club room... Even the lobby was quiete ordinary and the room decor wasn't anything wonderful eather.
All in all, the hotel was quite not the experience I expected, the only nice thing was the breakfast, which was very good.
I would not recomend the hotel, at least a clasic room, to anybody and maybe not even any other type of room, because obviously that would make the stay very expensive and I sincerely don't belive this hotel is worth it.
Stockholm is a wonderful city and my advice would be to eather take any other hotel at a good price( it is rather expensive always), but in Stockholm you woudn't find anything that would be totally unacceptable or if you do decide to book a wonderful hotel, make sure it isn't Sheraton.
