Three years later there is no Paco to illuminate the Sheraton Mencey. Driving around for half an hour trying to find a parking space was an omen. The trucks bringing materials,+ spa building work proceeds apace with the gardens roped off.The receptionist checking us in was the grumpy woman of yesteryear and allocated a small room without balcony. The maids(+man collecting sacks of used linen) all smiled and said "Hola" but less cheerful were the dour bar staff and the positively glowering expression of the stout porter who picked up half the luggage and did not return for the rest. The maze of corridors is still there along which we hauled our luggage. The table lamp bulb had blown. One of the beds gave a sloping sensation, the hairdyer the slowest ever, the taps an antiquated struggle and I'd forgotten that the showerhead was fixed and no hose. The lift to the casino was out of order.Don't forget your passport. The pretty bartender poured generous Gordon's and tonic with a smile and a flourish for our free drinks token. Across the Avenida General Franco the lunch menu at Tasca La Radio has increased by 3 euros but there is now an English speaking young waiter.

The hotel is meant to be 5* and although the prices reflect that I'd say that nothing else really did.
The room was fine if a little small but quiet as we had asked. The TV had hardly any channels.
The main problem with the hotel is a general air of shabbyness.
I think if I had paid ?90 a night then I would say it is fine but at ?150 a night I expect a lot more.

I was very surprised by the negative remarks posted about this hotel and can only assume that the management has been pro-active in addressing problems that have occurred in the past.
My room was just fine with the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in at a hotel and as the room overlooked a pretty courtyard with a fountain (thoughtfully switched off at night) it was blissfully quiet. Everywhere was clean and I appreciated the very large bathroom (two rooms in fact) with complimentary items that were actually worth using.
Only problem was room service with no hot food available after midnight. Also a request for a late breakfast to be sent to my room was unfulfilled.
Would happily stay at the Sheraton Mencey again.
