Stayed at this hotel as part of a 4 day city break in Oslo.
Location is an easy and safe walk from town. Area has a couple of small supermarkets nearby for supplies.
Hotel itself is very nicely presented, bar/lounge works well and service was good. Breakfast setup and selection excellent along with pleasant staff.
Add to all that a decent room and a good Expedia deal and this place is ideal for a city break.

Stayed for two nights in this hotel in july 2008. This Hotel is set in a perfect location - about 15 minutes walk from the olso bus terminal and about 5 minutes walk in to the town centre.
The Room was of a reasonable size a lovely comfy bed with flat screen tv with a mixture of channels available.
Nice Clean bathroom with a huge shower that you could fit about 5 people in and a heated tiled floor!
The best part of this hotel is the buffet breakfast - Choice of fruit - meats - cereals - Diffrerent types of bread - meatballs - Eggs it has to be seen to be believed how good it is!
Hotel reception staff were very friendly and helpful ie booking a taxi for us and helping us find things on the map.
Overall i would highly reccomend this hotel to other travellers.

We've just returned from a three-night stay and were impressed. We took advantage of a promotional offer they had going which meant we paid half price for the rooms (NOK 590/night for a double room with breakfast, which is about ?59, ?74, US$116).
As others have pointed out, it's a very easy 10-minute walk from Nationaltheatret Station, first stop after Oslo Central (Oslo-S), and reachable directly from Gardermoen airport. Incidentally, don't bother with the Flytoget express train. Go to the ticket office at the airport (out of arrivals, turn right and it's on your right after a 100 yards or so). The Flytoget counter and NSB counter are side-by-side, use the NSB counter (on the right) and ask for tickets for the local train. At NOK 86 one-way they're about half the price of the Flytoget, run every 30 minutes (actually it's the Skien and Kongsberg trains that run every hour, but alternately and from the same platform) and take hardly any longer (40-45 mins). Ask for timetables while you're there.
We weren't too impressed with the first room we were given as the windows faced an indoor atrium and didn't open. At first we were going to put up with it but after a couple of drinks that evening we decided to ask to move and although we'd used a couple of towels etc, and the fact that it was 11pm, they were fine about it and we took a room facing the square, which was much nicer, felt more spacious and light and, best of all, we could open the windows to get some of that lovely clean Norwegian air. So, be sure to request the type of room you'd like when you book.
I don't think previous reviews do justice to the breakfast. we've stayed in many three- and four-star hotels and the Edderkoppen breakfast beats them all. A great variety, including four or five types of picked fish; crispy bacon; fried boiled or scrambled eggs; tomatoes; baked beans; meatballs; fried potatoes; coleslaw; shrimp-mayonnaise salad; cold cuts and pate; many cereals and mueslis (inc. gluten-free); natural and fruit yoghurts; fermented milk; loose jams (ie, not in little packs); dried and fresh fruits; several types of bread which you can freshly cut yourself (plus ready-sliced); crisp breads; a variety of cheeses; a variety of teas that can be made fresh; instant coffee as well as machine filter coffee (not great, but rarely is and we live in Italy where you get spoiled) and hot chocolate; fruit juices. Basically, there's no excuse to leave breakfast hungry and you can sit and stuff yourself as much as you like. It's superb and served in a large and airy room with lots of windows facing the street.
The staff on the front desk were helpful and polite at all times, were happy to let us check out late (2pm) and all spoke very good English. In fact, in our brief stay we didn't encounter any Norwegian who didn't speak English, even a lowly check-out worker in a supermarket (OK, he might have been a PhD student doing holiday work).
Negative points? The rooms were clean where it mattered, such as the bathroom and the beds, but if you looked too closely into the corners or under the desk you'd see some fluff and bits, but nothing awful and by no means 'dirty'. The rooms don't have a safe, which we were surprised at. As we tried two rooms, we noticed certain anomalies, such as, our second room had an iron and ironing board and a free-standing electric heater, though the first one had neither. It was room 416, if you'd like to request it.
There's a very good bar just opposite the hotel, the name of which escapes me, but you can't miss it. The left side is a restaurant, which we didn't try, but the right is an atmospheric bar that serves very good proper steak burgers and good Norwegian beers.
We'd certainly stay at the Edderkoppen again, though probably only when there's a good promotional price.

Myself and a friend visited Oslo in May 2008 and stayed here for 2 nights. It is located in a quiet area with just 5 mins walk to National Theatre and a further 5 mins walk to the piers. Unlike the area close to Oslo Station which is a bit noisy and seems not very secure, the area Scandic Edderkoppen located is good, close to central area but quiet. There is also a food store located just next to the hotel, where you can buy somethings to eat/drink late night.
The room is not large, but not small, and clean. But the single bed is really a bit "narrow". The choices of breakfast is more than I expected, incl. lots of hot and cold foods. There is also desktop computers in lobby with free internet access. With only Kr 920 per night for a twin room in such an expensive city, I think it is really a good choice.

Myself and a few friends recently stayed here for a week,
This hotel is centrally located,
Very friendly and helpful staff,
Breakfast is traditional continental with quite a selection of fruit, cheeses and meats.
Free internet access in both the lobby and in the rooms.
The rooms were small but were furnished well including a minibar.
Would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing stay! and would return without hesitation.
