We arrived from the new Hurtigruten Terminal. It was very close. Walking distance if only light luggage, Unfortunately, too much luggage necesssitated a taxi.
Friendly staff at check in. Lobby was HUGE, lovely comfortable armchairs around a big glassed in fire. Bar with lots of stools, Free wifi set up - two spots. A short walk to an elevator. Our group of 19 were spread out on all floors instead of my request that we all be on the same floor.
The rooms were another kettle of fish. Upon first glance as we opened the door, they appeared lovely. Clean, spacious, large window. Mini-bar and coffe/tea set on the table. Iron and ironing board against a wall. There it stopped. It turns out it was the poorest designed facilities I've stayed in for a very long time. There was just one rack for one suitcase. There were absolutely no drawers or cabinets whatsoever to put anything. There was a 'space' where 4 coat hangers were on a bar. Though a portable hair dryer was on the counter in the bathroom, there were absolutely no outlets anywhere to plug it in.
The bathroom was a joke. Though again huge, there was nowhere to put a toiletry kit, nowhere to hang one, no hooks on the bathroom door for robes, or towels. The bath tub sides were SO high, it would take someone a lot taller than I, at 5'4". to climb over the side to get to the shower. It was downright dangerous infact. My husband attempted to lift me over, but the bottom of the tub was so slippery, I elected to forgo and stand at the sink. On top of which there was no showere curtain or 3/4 plexiglass divider that other rooms seemed to have. There was however a huge tiled recessed area with nothing in it; What a waste.
The beds in standard Scandinavian tradition were two twins pushed together, and were quite comfortable.
The buffet breakfast was plentiful but crowded and very noisy. Tables could have been cleared faster. As it was, we cleared used plates ourselves to make room to sit down.
Though it says it's walking distance into town, I would say only if you're young and fit. It'a actually probaby about a mile. All cobblestoned streets, lots of potholes, and traffic.
I looked at other rooms. Everyone in the group agreed it was too noisy. Not only is there a cinema next door, but it's on a main street with a tram that runs directly alongside it. One couple asked to be moved twice because of it. On our last day, one chap travelling as a single was checking out at 5AM. He said if I wanted t use his room to shower I could. (He had a 'step-in' one. ) So I did. It was SO tiny, it was funny. There was NOWHERE to put soap or shampoo, so I put it on the tiled floor. The shower was so tiny, I had to open the doors to bend over to pick up the soap. I'm only a size 8. What woiuld a large person do I thought...
All in all not a great experience.

I am not normally a difficult customer to please, and I have travelled a lot.
This is one of the worst hotel experiences I have had in a long time. It all started when I opened the door. Crisps and broken glass made it very visible that the vacuum cleaner had not been in use. A strange smell, turned out to be a packet of butter behind some furniture.
The room was old and really worn. The carpet was full of stains and the walls had holes in them. The walls can not have been decorated since the 80s when pink was popular in Norway. There were holes in the wallpaper as well as in the lamp shades.
The worst thing was maybe that it was not possible to lock the door.
The staff was smiling and tried to do their best, but there was no apologizing, no knock of the price, and no offer to change the room.
The breakfast was really good, but the less said about the lunch and dinner the better. For dinner I chose a hamburger. For the price, I expected a juicy burger, but what I got was one of those pre made low price fatty things with hardly any meat in. The bacon on top was definitely not fried the same day.
For lunch I had some baked chicken. The chicken I am sorry to say was gone bad. I left it. By that time I had complained so much (something that I hate to do), that I didn't say anything. (It was prepaid, that is why I went back after the first meal)
Bergen is full of nice hotels better placed and at the same price. I would not recommend this one to anyone.
I have noticed that they also have some new rooms, but even paying full price I was not given one of them.
On the bright side? The bathroom was big and clean and not as worn as the rest of the room. The lobby was beautiful.

This hotel is in a good location. However it is housed in three buildings and the one we were put in left a lot to be desired. I think it was the oldest of the three, despite us booking the two rooms months in advance. The building was across the street from the real hotel and just wasn't very cheerful. It frankly got a bit on our nerves and it didn't feel like we were staying at a relatively expensive accommodation.
On the plus side however the cleaning staff were very nice and thorough. And Bergen is a very very nice city with a lot of interesting things to do.

This hotel left a lot to be desired. First, the positive: it was a pretty close walk to the downtown area. The breakfast buffet was very good. Unfortunately, it stops there. My room was dirty, with large stains on the bedspreads, cracked wooden door and evidence of leaking through the ceiling. It was also very noisy. There was a lot of street noise coming in, plus i was awoken by some construction guys early in the morning. This hotel definately needs a face lift, it's dated and depressing.
