The hotel is ok but was expecting the hotel to be a little better. The decor and furniture in my room was tired and in need of refurbishment, paint was peeling off in places. The hotel lacks any character at all, and this is reflected in the efficient but miserable staff on duty. Truly disappointed in the experience, would have expected better from Scandic.

Outdoors nice 23 degrees centigrade. Indoors hellish 29 degrees centigrade. Give this one a miss in summertime.

I had a 1-night stay at Scandic Kuopio in early May of 2007. paying a corporate rate of €106:-/night for a King-room booked through our travel agent. It was an ok stay, as a Hilton HHonors gold cardholder I got a room ón the 5th (highest) floor with a nice view over the lake. The room itself was nothing special but I have no complaints either. As gold Scandic gives you a €14:- voucher that can be used at hotel restaurants and bars, it is a nice touch. Service at front desk was excellent. During week breakfast is served until 10 am but already at 9 am the food selection was getting smaller and the warm foods was getting lukewarm. There weren't enough newspapers in the restaurant either.

average hotel, in need of a little modernisation but i've seen worse hotel decor crimes committed. biggest gripe was the lack of air conditioning. we were told this was the hottest summer in finland in memory and they've never needed air con before. our room was a veritable sauna and i had to ask reception for a 2nd fan which just moved the hot air around the room a bit faster. windows were small & ineffectual and we didn't sleep a wink. ordinarily i would have kicked up a fuss at reception but we were too tired and too anxious to get some sleep elsewhere that we didn't bother. in my opinion the heat was so bad to be considered a health risk - i'm a healthy 33 year old and found the heat debilitating. hate to think how the bus full of senior citizens fared during their stay. heat aside; breakfast good, location good, short walk to lovely beer terraces and centre. ask for a room with a view of the lake.
