This is our second stay at the Grand Marina. We find the location to be second to none. It is just far enough from the busy central area to be relatively quiet but still within easy walking distance of many attractions and restaurants. There is a tram stop just couple of blocks away that will take you anywhere in the city. Another plus is its laundry facility, something not found in many hotels. Breakfast is included and has a very nice variety. Internet terminals in the lobby are free. Rooms are very nice. We had a large corner suite with sitting area but even their standard rooms are nice. Staff is friendly and helpful.

You can have a double room for only 64 Euro pr. night at any Scandic Hotel in Scandinavia from June 19, 2008 and all summer long, if you book directly at www.scandichotels.dk.
So forget about all the .com-sites that will charge you up to twice as much!

The Scandic Grand Marina was great! It was a perfect location to explore Helsinki - a 5 min. walk to Market Square. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Our room was on the second floor above the front door - but surprisingly quiet! It had nice wooden floors and comfortable beds. Two problems - you could only open the window a crack to get some nice, cool air. The bathroom had a very bad odor - something coming up through the shower drain (?) - that smelled like sulphur! Very odd. The best thing about the Scandic Grand Marina was the breakfast - it was a feast! They served fruit, meats, cheese, a variety of breads, eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, yogurt - it was a banquet of good food! I would recommend this hotel based on it's location and the breakfast!

I usually prefer smaller hotels, however this one I quite liked.
Of course an adapted harbour warehouse building must have its limitations.
What I liked: helpful staff with just right attitude (attentive but not overly so). Free wireless and good free breakfast included with the room. Convenient location near the ferry terminal and near the town centre (Helsinki is very compact and walkable). There's also a tram stop not far from the hotel. Comfortable bed. Quiet housekeeping (central vacuum cleaner meaning no vacuuming noise in the mornings). Safe that worked. Plenty of mains sockets. Quiet rooms.
What I didn't like so much: Window does not open more than 10cm. The furniture is rather modest (no drawers, shelves etc). No in-room tea/coffee facilities. The restaurant was closed when I arrived and the bar closed early. Limited choice of TV channels.
What I didn't care for: Large LCD TV, fancy nightlights, ironing board plus trouser press. A hairdryer. The room was quite narrow, the windows rather small and the view not exciting.
All in all, I'd happily stay again.

My friend booked this via Expedia. The room booking was for three people again (see Stockholm review) the hotel seemed to be unaware of the booking for three persons. Even so, the staff were helpful and rectified the situation quickly. We were given a room immediately even though we checked in at 10.30am in the morning, which we were very grateful for. We were given a room with two singles and an armchair that folded out to be a comfortable bed. The rooms were long and thin and painted in a light colour which made them bright even though the window was small. The bed side lamps were good; there was tea and coffee making facilities, a flat screen TV. The beds were comfortable and the whole place was very clean. The bathroom was fine with a good shower.
The breakfast was great, good coffee and selection of foods.
The location was near the ferry terminal which was excellent for us as ferry was the method of our arrival (Viking lines from Stockholm). It was only a short walk to the centre of the city. We were here for two days and sent most of that time on foot. There are bicycles available for residents to borrow and we did this on the second day. The cycle paths are well planned and marked.
The hotel is housed in a converted warehouse. It is a great building.
There is a gym and sauna in the hotel. I used the sauna facilities (separate saun for male and female) and was impressed.
In summary, I liked the hotel very much. The rooms were clean, modern and comfy. The breakfast and sauna facilities were excellent and the staff friendly. I would recommend
