Just Fine but Noisy Outside

We liked the rooms -- a bit tight for closet space but cozy plus free internet. REALLY nice breakfast buffet with very welcoming staff.
Only problem was the two bars across the street and just below my 3rd floor room -- Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night the crowd spilled onto the sidewalks and were rowdy past midnight.
Way below standard

This hotel was booked via one of my agents in Sweden and the first impression was good.
The lady at reception was very friendly and check-in was smooth. I stayed in room 316, the "red" floor of the hotel. I liked the modern look of the whole thing. Wifi internet is free and works. There is a good, albeit small tv mounted on the wall. The rooms are rather small.
Below expectation was the state my room was in when I arrived:
The bathroom was dirty, the waste basket had not been emptied and was full of personal trash from the previous guest, dust on the sides of the mirror, etc. Basically looked like the cleaning person left early.
The bath tub sounds like it is going to collapse while taking a shower. There are stains of unknown origin on the side of the box spring of the bed.
I should have packed my stuff and demanded a new and clean room, but most of this stuff you find out when already installed. I complained afterwards, but the only response was that they would comp me during a future visit. Like I would chose to stay here again!
The location is very nice and restaurants and bars are within walking distance.
All in all, for 2050 Swedish Krones or 325 USD I would expect a much higher standard. What a waste of money!

This hotel is perfect. It's right on the main Avenyn street with all the clubs/bars/McDonalds!! right on your doorstep. Stayed in room 614 which had a big double bed and was absolutely perfect.
I'd definetly suggest staying on the Avenyn street rather than looking at a hotel elsewhere. The shopping centre is at the bottom of the street and the road doesn't actually have that much traffic on it due to the bike lanes and trams so it's pleasant to walk along.
Take a trip on the Paddan sightseeing boat which involves some VERY low bridges where you have to sit on the floor!

We stayed at this hotel in Feb 07 in a queen room (cheapest).
The room
The room was compact but for a 2 night stay with little luggage was fine. The room included a queen bed, tv with a selection of channels and pay movies; an iron and ironing board; wardrobe and mini bar. There was desk space and 2 chairs. The hotel has a wireless connection that enables you to connect to the internet for free, you need to ask for a code from the desk.
The bathroom
This Included a bath and overhead shower (my partner has stayed in this hotel before and did not have a bath in his room, this was prior to March 2007 when the rooms were refurbished - maybe all have baths now, but if this is important to you, I'd suggest you check with the hotel). Obviously a toilet and basin! There was handwash and bodywash included. There was enough space for our toiletries and a big, well-lit mirror and also a smaller moveable mirror for close-ups.
Breakfast
There was a wide-range of cheeses, meats and bread/crackers which I ate both mornings. There was also a good selection of fruit and cereals. One morning I had pancakes with jam and cream which was really tasty, I also remember croissants and cakes which I did not try. I noticed that there was also a hot selection - bacon, meatballs, eggs though didn't try any of these. There were the usual fruit juices and coffee. All in all I couldn't fault breakfast, I enjoyed both my breakfasts here and am certain anyone would find something they would like.
General
The hotel has free internet if you have wireless on your laptop which is handy for business and leisure.
The service was great, all staff were professional and courteous and the breakfast staff always had a smile. We didn't use the bar so can't comment, it was very popular on the Friday night.
The street noise did come through to our room especially on the Friday night (we were located over the main street), however, this is easy to put up with as the location is great. The hotel is easy walking distance to restaurants and bars and a couple of museums.
I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Gothenburg.
Comment on restaurants/bars on Kungsportsavenyn (The Avenue). There is plenty of choice and from what we could tell everywhere was very busy on the Friday night. It might be useful to know that it appears most bars/restaurants enforce coat checking at a cost of 20kr per coat. Whilst this is not much money it does add up (an additional 80kr for the evening if as a couple you go to just 1 bar before a restaurant) and did stop us from trying several bars in one night in the area. This practice really annoyed me as I have never encountered this anywhere I have travelled before and would sometimes like to keep my coat especially if stopping off for just one drink, but I guess when in Rome.........

I stayed in this hotel for several weeks at a time from 2000 to 2003 while conducting business in Goteborg. The location is excellent as it is on the main street. There are plenty of restaurants and bars near by. My favourite being the Dancing Dingo which was just around the corner.
The rooms were comfortable and clean and the staff were attentive and courteous. The bar is nice and the restaurant was ok but I never really did dine there as there were plenty of restaurants near by. I would recommend it.
