We have just returned from 6 nights at the Traders Hotel. The rooms, staff and location were all wonderful for the price. We had connecting rooms with our children and this proved to be an excellent arrangement. We used the concierge to organise day trips, transport and even a brief trip to the local hospital. They could not have been more helpful and it was impressive how quickly they remembered our names and preferences.
The hotel pool was a welcome respite from the days' heat and it was never crowded or busy. The hotel is right next door to Tanglin Mall which has restaurants, chemists, clothing stores, food court and a supermarket. This is a great spot for the basics and the food court proved popular with our children.
I would definitely recommend this hotel as a great place for families visiting Singapore.

A good Singapore Hotel

Traders Hotel is very good 4 star hotel at the top of Orchard Road, handy to shops, restaurants, buses, money changers and a supermarket next door in Tanglin Mall. It is in a quiet area suitable for morning walks or taxi's are plentiful. It is close to Botanical Gardens with a short 10 minute walk, has the SIA Hop On bus stop opposite and plenty of eating places around from food courts to good restaurants. The hotel rooms are a reasonably good size, clean and airy. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. There is a very nice pool area and a gym. It is always a pleasure staying there.

We had stayed in the Shangri-la Hotel last year and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This year we decided that we would go with the same group but not pay quite so much...hence the Traders. We were very disappointed with the room. We paid an extra $300 Singapore dollars so that we could check out at 6:00pm on our last day, which also included breakfast for two mornings plus being able to access the Trader's Club Lounge. The bedroom was the smallest room I have ever stayed in. It was claustrophobic and the bathroom was tiny. We had a meal at Ah Hoi's restaurant one evening. My meal arrived 10 minutes before my husbands so I waited a while until his arrived, which meant mine was cold. We had lunch at the pool the following day...same thing happened. My meal arrived. This time I ate it. My husbands arrived after I had finished. We did complain about the size of the room and the service at the restaurant and in all fairness after we arrived back in the UK they did send a letter of apology and two Trader's tee shirts. However next year we won't be staying at the Trader's.

I booked with Qantas holidays Australia over the phone. I stayed for 5 nights, & had a wonderful stay at Traders. All of the hotel staff were courteous, whenever I encountered them. The variety of food at the breakfast buffet was wonderful. I had lunch one day, & it was also lovely. The prices were comparable to other places I ate. The room I had was not large, but it was very nice. the bed was comfortable, which was the main thing. The only thing I wasn't happy with, were the pillows; they were feather, & too soft for my liking. I had to use 4, so it was lucky I was the only occupant. The bathroom was lovely, & facilities were excellent. The pool was beautiful, & the hot spa was also wonderful! I also had a neck, head & back massage one day. A very relaxing experience. All in all a great stay.
I would return to, & definately recomend, the Traders Singapore.

Considering that "Trader's" belongs to Shangri-La we were very disappointed for the following reasons:
Slow and inefficient check-in. We were given registration cards with a wrong address in the case of my husband, a completely wrong name for me. I was told that it was in their database. We had never stayed at Trader's in SIN ever before. The guy was insistent we should sign the registration with false details.
It took 30 mins to find a room for us although it had been pre-booked 2 months before.
We had booked a luxury room. It was tiny. Too tiny for 2 people. I'm still trying to work out where they had hidden the luxury. Wall paper looked grubby and worn.
Bathroom was basic. Bath mat was wet and not fresh when we arrived.
Breakfast was o.k. and good selection, pastries were not of high quality. I could not get a soft boiled egg - hard one or nothing. Poached egg was not available either.
Overall impression was that of a transit hotel. Location was convenient. I would not stay at Trader's if I had the choice. We chose to stay there as Singapore hotels were pretty full for our period of stay and our hotel of choice was fully booked.
