I was returning from a vacation spent in the arrowhead of Minnesota, and made a detour into Hayward on my way home. (This was in mid-September 2003). The high season for Hayward had definitely passed, and since it was a Sunday night, all of the hotel parking lots in town were deserted. After cruising thru town checking out the hotel choices, I decided to give the AmericInn a try. The hotel was completely empty except for one other room, and the front desk attendant assigned me a room immediately adjacent to the lobby/public area. The woman who checked me in was perfectly friendly, and the lobby looked inviting, but the room was really pretty dumpy. Chair uphostery was stained, the room smelled of cigarette smoke, the carpet was stained, the mattress on the bed seemed as if it had seen better days. (at least the sheets were clean) Considering the numerous hotel options in Hayward, I cannot recommend the AmericINN.
