Ich war letztes Jahr hier und hatte direkt vor Ort gebucht. Es liegt in Matten, einem Vorort von Interlaken. Von außen sah es ganz nett aus, der Rezeptionsbereich war okay und auch das Restaurant sah schön aus (dafür, dass es schon so alt ist!), aber wenn man dann die Treppe hoch gegangen ist...Dort sah es recht heruntergekommen aus, auch im Zimmer. Unser Zimmer war aber sehr groß und mit einem Balkon ausgestattet. Für das Geld nicht schlecht. Man bekommt halt, was man bezahlt!! Das Frühstück war einfach, keine große Auswahl und altes Besteck. Es war sicherlich einmal ein prachtvolles Hotel, aber sie haben dort einfach zu lange nichts mehr am Haus gemacht und vergessen, es zu modernisieren. Ein Hotel für einen schmalen Geldbeutel (aber keine Herberge). Wenn ich nicht viel Geld zur Verfügung hätte, würde ich vielleicht sogar wieder dort übernachten.

We first stayed at The Alpina in Feb 2003, then 2007 and have booked again for Feb 2008 for a party of 14,some for which it will be their first visit to Switzerland not just Interlaken.We find The Alpina a good family run, friendly hotel steeped in Swiss character. It is situated on the Matten side of town a 15 min stroll into the town center. Switzerland in general is not a cheap place to holiday, but there is a mix of small family run hotel/restaurants, like The Alpina and a few big corporate run expensive hotels. As some people have commented the hotel is old but our rooms have all had en-suite facilities, and were always clean. Don't expect 4 star Holiday Inn style but do expect every bit a warm welcome and a rate a lot less! Breakfast is continental and everything is freshly baked. Supper is three or four course and at 15 CHF per person (£7-8), fantastic value. The Cheese fondue is a must.... The locals in the bar are a friendly and welcoming, we think... we couldn't understand a word but good fun. All in all The Geringer's are a lovely family who run a very good simple style of hotel and we feel represents very good value for money.

Stayed there last year as a walk-in guest. Is located in Matten which is a suburb of Interlaken. Outside looks good, the reception is good, the restaurant looks good (for the old days!) but once when you get upstairs… you’ll feel the place falling and tearing… the same in the room… the room they gave us was really big and with balcony not bad for the money we paid for it… is just you get what you paid!!! The breakfast was simple not many choices, old tableware. For sure in their early days was a grandeur place the only thing they leave it run, run, run along with the time with no refurbishing and no moderning… is a place for budget basic stay (no hostelling). Maybe will stay there again if tight budgeted.

I was thrilled to get to beautiful Interlaken, but was disappointed at nearly every turn. The drive there is amazing, but getting to the Alpina was very tricky for some reason. Upon arriving, the place looks great from the outside, but immediately starts to show it's age upon entering the lobby. The staff was very helpful, but the place itself was old, creaky and had pretty crummy rooms. I felt like I was staying in my grandmother's ancient mountain chalet with candy-striped drapes and a balcony that felt like it was duct-taped on. Breakfast was very disappointing as well. The hotel restaurant was booked for a private party the night we were there, and walking around Interlaken itself was a depressing trip to the '70's. Everywhere (including Hooters) struck me as overpriced and very touristy. We left Hotel Alpina two night early and ventured about 10-15 minutes further into the Alps to the town of Lauterbrunnen - this is what we were looking for!! A beautiful town with picturesque views, great little hotels and fewer shady characters. There were plenty of little restaurants and shops and easy access to hiking, gondolas, etc. Check out my review of Hotel Staubbach for a good place to stay! Interlaken is a good hub and is clearly a great place for hostelers. It's also got the best access to adventure sports, but it's just as easy to stay somewhere nice and drive to Interlaken in the morning.

Wir buchten das Alpina, nachdem wir für die drei Nächte vom 28. bis 31. Dezember 2006 nichts anderes mehr bekommen hatten. Es hat uns nicht sehr überrascht, dass alles schon ausgebucht war und als wir die Möglichkeit hatten, ein Zimmer in diesem Hotel zu bekommen, haben wir es für 140 CHF/Nacht gebucht. Wir waren dann aber recht enttäuscht. Es war wirklich nicht das Geld wert. Die Zimmer waren alt und wenig komfortabel. Man spürt dort aber, dass das Hotel einmal sehr schön gewesen sein muss, sie haben bloß nichts mehr dran gemacht. Die Fahrt mit dem Fahrstuhl glich einem Abenteuer. Wir sind auf unsere Zimmer gegangen, haben die Situation besprochen und vor dem Auspacken sind wir noch einmal auf die Straße gegangen. Knapp 500 Meter näher an der Stadt entdeckten wir das Park Mattenhof, das zwar auch kein Ritz, aber 100 Mal besser war und genauso viel kostete. Wir konnten dort allerdings nur zwei der drei Nächte bleiben. Wir buchten die Zimmer und fanden dann das Chalet Hirschen an einer Ecke (noch näher an der Stadt), die für die letzte Nacht Zimmer für 10 Franken weniger anboten und die Zimmer dort waren noch viel, viel schöner. Als wir ins Alpina zurückkehrten, gaben wir die Schlüssel ab und der Angestellte an der Rezeption zeigte sich auch nicht sonderlich überrascht, dass wir wieder abreisten.
