Whilst this is a reasonably priced hotel in a very convient location with nice swimmingpool and outdoor restaurant/bar, there are a couple of major drawbacks.
THE BELLS!!! They ring every hour on the hour.....right through the night. One gong for 1am is fine but try 12 at midnight or for some odd reason 28 at 8am. The church is so close to the hotel. We were so tired the 3 days that we stayed there.
The hotel is dated and the carpets in the room were very badly stained. No fridge in the room either.
Wouldn't stay there again.

We chose the Carlton Villa Mortiz from the Relais de Silence hotel brochure as a stopover on our way to Italy because it had a family room.
The hotel is in a beautiful location: from pool terrace you can see the lake and nearby mountains. The restaurant has a covered patio, so you can eat outside if you prefer. There is a small sized lounge with sofas, books and internet access. We stopped for an late evening drink, and found the service very friendly, but slow. Breakfast in the morning was nice, with loose tea (not tea bags).
While some rooms have views and others overlook the garden, ours was on the side of the hotel closest to a quiet pedestrian path. It was a large room, which had been divided into two separate areas one with a double bed and the other with two singles. The room was clean, but with few amenities; although en suite, we had a shower, but no bath.
While in Lugano, we walked over to the Mount Bre railway which is not too far from the hotel (although this was an expensive excursion!). We also walked into town for the evening.
My only major warning for anyone planning to stay here is that it is located near a church which tolls the bells every hour and every half-hour, even at night. I heard 2.00, 3.00 am and 4.00. Not particularly restful. I wouldn't stay again, unless I had a good set of ear plugs.

Having researched hotels online for our overnight stay in Lugano, we were more than pleased with our choice of the Carlton Villa Moritz. From the gentleman who met us at the train station to transport us to the hotel, to the friendly staff at the front desk we felt welcome and treated like appreciated guests. The setting, away from town and overlooking the lake, was delightful. Our room overlooked the pool and lake, affording beautiful views. The whole atmosphere at the Carlton Villa Moritz is serene and calming, we were only there on an overnight between Venezia and Zermatt but can't wait to return for a longer stay! We loved being out of town, used the bus to go to dinner which was very convinient. Our rooms were clean and adequate. Breakfast on the terrace was a restful start to the day. I would choose this hotel again in a heartbeat.
