Foul Air at the Fourwinds

Disgusted is the best way to describe the way my family and I felt when we checked out of the Fourwinds Resort. We are very familiar with the Bloomington area and we are very fond of it. Therefore imagine our surprise when we checked in to this place that calls themselves a resort. This place was absolutely filthy and I would plead with people with children to avoid this place at all cost. The room we were given was not what was promised, we had originally booked a patio room and was given a balcony. I was okay with that but the reason given to us was because all of the patio rooms sliding glass doors were broken. Okay...so we still plan on having a good time, the hallway is dirty and very dark, I believe it is dark for a reason(you can't see all the dirt and mold.) When we entered the room the smell was awful! There was something all over the ceiling, the information booklet about the resort was missing half the pages, the bathroom doorknob was broken. We decided we could overcome this and try to salvage this vacation with our family, so we went to the beach. OH MY GOSH! The private beach was littered with cigarette butts, duck poop, duck feathers and some trash. There was so much poop out on the beach we were anxious about letting our children play on it. We decided to take a walk around the resort(ha, ha) To add to our disappointment we found cigarette butts everywhere, and the majority of the guests were partying. This is not a family enviroment. So...if you like to smoke and drink and don't mind the trash you'll have a great time. In addition to all of this when I asked for more towels they couldn't seem to find them anywhere. We left the next morning as soon as possible and when I tried to speak with the desk clerk she seemed to be stressed and was very rude. We were just glad that whatever was living in our sheets and kept us up all night scratching didn't come home with us!

I honestly can't think of a positive thing to say. The key to staying here must be to request one of the newly updated rooms I guess. We went for a little winter getaway, which was a bust since our only option for food was "pub grub". We chose to go into Bloomington for dinner instead. The hall was very dark and filthy. (Half full cups sitting in corners, popcorn and trash all down the stairwell and in the hall, etc..) Our carpet had wine (hopefully...) stains all over it. I kept my shoes on. We really just wanted to get out of there as soon as we woke up- and that's exactly what we did.

The grounds of the resort are very well-kept, looking great especially for October. Rooms need perking up and lack coffeemakers; hallways are very poorly lighted. Winter renovation had started, and the 2 rooms we saw underway have large baths with large glass showers, big storage walls, and brighter decor. We 4 adults had one breakfast in the very attractive restaurant; our food and service were fine. Rain thwarted plans to explore the lake in one of the resort's rental pontoon boats, so we turned to the indoor pool. -- in poor condition. Pool walls were peeling and "scuzzy," as was the cold water. We did enjoy the big hot tub, but cut short our stay because of the pool.

The Fourwinds is a great place for a short but fun vacation. We stayed four days. It is located on the lake and has a gorgeous setting. They have anything you would want to do with the water, so if you like sunsets over the water and toys to play in the water this is the place. We rented a near brand new sport boat and went skiing. The staff showed us everything we needed to know and was very friendly. We also rented a waverunner and my kids had a blast. They also have a very nice indoor outdoor pool. The rooms are ok and we saw a model of the rooms to be redone over the next year and it was spectacular, I really liked it.
All in all once the rooms are ok but dated but once redone like the one I saw this one part of the property will make this place a perfect place to return to over and over again.
