I travel to Sao Paulo several times a year and usually stay at the Melia Jardim Europa, but recently their rates have gone up a lot and I decided to try another hotel without moving from Itaim which is a nice and safe area of Sao Paulo. I was bit concerned by the previous reviews but at the end I'm happy I stayed there. It is not luxory but doesn't pretend to be.
1) I arrived very early morning (from Europe). Room was not ready but front desk guy promised to have one within 1 hour, in the meantime I was granted breakfast. I got the room 45 min later only!
2) Room was big enough with separated sitting area, but looked a bit tired and sad, some refurbishing in lighter colours would make it more pleasant. Bed is queen size (why not king?) but comfortable. Bathroom is also adequate size but why no window?? In winter taking a shower is a real challenge, but for sure it wakes you up!
3) I hate going to the restaurant alone so mini kitchen and microwave were the best solution. Supermarket is not far away and you can always get a cab if you don't want to walk. They are not expensive.
4) I also liked having a small balcony, some fresh air instead of aircon only. Very surprisingly I had to sign that door was unlocked under my responsibility
5) Breakfast was good and with a wide choice, however restaurant is somehow depressing, not enough lightened and with dark seats and tables. Brighter colours would help the mood.
6) Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. They were ready to help every time I had a question, allowed a late check-out although the hotel was fully booked and even booked the hairdresser for me.
At the end it was a good choice, I will probably stay there again next time

A good price/quality hotel overall, in a nice area of town. Enjoyed the skyline view from the room (28th floor). Very slow internet unless you pay for it. Recommend Kosushi restaurant (15min away) for Japanese sushi.

Two problems I encountered.
1) I was put in a smoking room, which really stank, I asked to be moved and got put in another smoking room which didn't smell quite so bad.
2) room serice will always be with you in "15 minutes" , when it arrived one hour ten minutes later, after several calls, they said it was "free". Point is though if they said it was going to take over an hour I would have just gone to bed, but "this is Brazil"
Rooms are OK, but Sao Paulo is a noisy city through the night and they are not double glazed windows, and so expect some noise intrusion.
Apart from that room size, beds, bathroom, kitchenette, front desk, breakfast bar, location all OK with out being spectacular.
I travel into SP occaisionally on business and this hotel is relatively decent value for money and so would probably stay here again.

Completely disgusting.
1/ upon checkin i got a quote for the month. After 1 week this was raised. I was told that if i didnt like it i could leave but i would have to pay full daily rate for the week up untill that point.
2/room service staff didnt bring me back change in some cases as i didnt want to charge it to the room. Food was disgusting in any case
3/ but the most serious of events. My girlfriend was propositioned in the elevator by a senior member of staff. We then proceeded to receive random phone calls from men within the hotel asking for services??? On one occasion i answered the phone. i asked the man where he got the room number from and he replied one of the men on reception had given it to him if he wanted 'entertainment'. This brought my girlfriend to tears on numerous occasions.
On confronting management , they blatantly refused to accept the occurrences where true even though we had evidence and was forced to pay an inflated bill or they threated to call the police who and i quote from their senior manager 'would never take a gringoes side'!!
through work we have to live in hotels worldwide and i as such i am used to moderately being taken advantage of by local business such as hotel but the things we witnessed here were just outright DISGUSTING. As of yet the only reply we have received from their head office is that the complaint has been passed onto the local management!! This was were the problem started in the first place!

We left the hotel with mixed feelings:
The rooms are good but be aware that some of them have open windows in the bathrooms that make the bedroom freezing cold during winter. Be sure to avoid these rooms.
The breakfast was great as well as the people serving it.
The front desk people did not seem to care for our requests. We had a very hard time at reservation time because the Hotel tried to charge us more than the price that was published in the official Intercontinental Hotels website. After a lot of negotiations we got the official rate.
The hotel is right next to restaurants, convenience stores and a movie megaplex, in a very central location of town.
