The website makes this place out to be in an exclusive area near downtown and surrounded by a park. I was terribly dissapointed to find that it is actually quite a ways from downtown, not at all in a park, and is attached to a strip joint. Staff was unfriendly and informed me that though we had left Seattle at 5 AM to catch a ferry here we could not check in until 3:30. The room was cramped and the maid service does not come until well into the afternoon.
The whole stay we were surrounded on all sides of our room by very noisy Asian immigrants. Many yelled and played their music above reasonable limits. The hotel seems mainly to cater to these types as it is right by Chinatown. The strip club is not obvious and did not really present a problem, but its proximity is not really a plus. The front desk workers seem to have difficulty with the English language, but grasp Cantonese flawlessly. Unless you plan on checking in late or are from Shanghai avoid this place. Also, there is no free continental breakfast as advertised.

Spent a week in Victoria just to get away for a little vacation and was looking for somewhere with a reasonable price and this was the best deal in town. Was pleasently surprized at how quiet it was with bars near by and a liquor store downstairs. The staff went out of their way to help in any way they could and the room were spotless. With the the walking trail next to the hotel it made it easy to walk downtown quickly and without any hastles along the way. Great city to visit and the most economical and well run hotel I had the pleasure to stay in in any city.

PROS:
1. Price...good deal for suite.
2. Kitchenette allowed us to have breakfast in room each morning without having to go to a restaurant. Microwave, fridge, stovetop, etc nice for kids to have snacks.
3. Separate bedroom in suite allowed some privacy and space for us and our kids.
4. Nice bathroom...it's so nice compared to rest of unit that it almost seems out of place. :-)
5. Short drive to everything.
6. Restaurant in hotel (although we didn't go to it).
7. Clean. I read some reviews that said rug was dirty. However, it was clean when we were there...not brand new, but clean.
CONS:
1. Liquor store downstairs (although it was handy for us to buy a bottle of wine one night).
2. Strip club in connecting building, with many of the strippers living in the Red Lion hotel.
3. A lot of creepy people outside due to strip club and liquor store. One night while there, someone's car was broken into.
4. Not walking distance to anything.
5. Front desk staff not too friendly.
So I have mixed feelings on the hotel. We actually had a good experience there. The suite that holds up to 5 people only cost us $67 a night compared to the hotels downtown that cost $200. We also saved money by not having to go out every meal. For us, this allowed us to do more fun events with the money we saved. On that, I wouldn't let my teenage daughters go outside by themselves because of seedy characters going in strip club.
