After reading some of the earlier reviews I was really skeptical about what to expect when checking in at the Red Lion Medford. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised when entering the room as it wasn't as bad as some of the previous entries suggested. Yes, the rooms are "motel style" with outdoor entry ways but we really had no problems with that. Our room was on the second floor and backed up to a small creek that flowed behind the hotel. The room did have a balcony which was used only when in need of a cigarette as the rooms are non-smoking. The room itself was clean, the bed comfortable with plenty of pillows. The bathroom was newer and clean with plenty of towels. The t.v. armoire had drawers which we used to keep some of our clothes as we were staying for two nights. The hotel had only one computer for use by guests and that presented a problem as a small line formed by potential users daily. There is a bar/restaurant in the lobby area which we did not use. The room was quiet with the exception of one night when I could hear our neighbors conversing on their balcony, after about fifteen minutes I couldn't hear them anymore so it wasn't a huge deal. The AC worked fine and was not unbearably loud. Easy access to the freeway to Ashland or other points of interest in the area. The hotel is walking distance to the downtown area of Medford where there are a few good bars and restaurants but truthfully the town has seen better days. I would more than likely stay here again if in the area, I believe that we paid about $55 or so a night which is a bargain compared to some other hotels in the area.

We ended up with the Red Lion because we bid on Priceline. It is a very old property that has been remodeled. The rooms were OK, with newer carpeting and renovated bathrooms and actually had a decent showerhead, but they have very old air-conditioner units that are very noisy. We were given a room at the very edge of the property right next to some industrial-looking buildings with crates & things piled nearby. The hotel has no landscaping and is mostly backtop. They do have a pool, but again the pool area was not landscaped and was just a fenced in area with some chairs. I inquired at the front desk about pool towels & was told to just use the towels in our room. We only had two towels in the room.
The person checking us in seemed to be having a bad day and told the other clerk not to hurry to the airport to pick up a guest [a free service offered] because the guest was "an idiot". The check-in desk is right next to the bar, so there was no escaping the strong cigarette smell. We opted not to eat in the restaurant because of that.
If you are staying there for a conference, or business, the hotel is probably fine, but if you are on vacation you can probably do better someplace else.

The only salvageable thing was the staff greeted us in a 3-star hotel manner and the bathroom looks pretty nice, other than that it's the worst hotel ever. The facility is pretty old. If you got a room on the upper floor like we got you'll have to climb the stairs with all your luggage. Then the minute we opened our room door we smell this old stinky smell (muggy and moldy smell). On top of that there are ants and tiny spiders all over. There were some in the bath-tub, bathroom floor and I've even found a tiny spider on the bed comforter. I got pretty grossed out and decided I better not look so carefully otherwise I wouldn't be able to sleep. Anyways, I'd say good luck if this is the hotel you're staying in.
