We stayed at the Rydges Adelaide for 4 nights and the overall experience was rather disappointing.
Thank you to Reception staff for trying to make the best of things for us – customer focussed and efficient staff is the only good point of this hotel.
Caution:
•Don’t stay on Friday & Saturday nights – the hotel have Dinner & Dance events and it is noisy with people slamming doors well into the early hours;
•Ask for a room away from the lifts – the noise is simply unbearable – we stayed in one the first night and couldn’t sleep at all;
•Beware – some rooms have small shared balconies. As the windows have no net curtains or blinds – there is no chance of privacy during the day or early evening. Our experience was truly horrendous – Friday night partying started next door and on the balcony well before the Dinner & Dance. At least eight people drinking and smoking in the room and on the balcony right outside our windows. Reception staff moved us to a quieter part of the hotel after we had complained – however it didn’t help, as after midnight we were disturbed by a shotgun being fired right outside the building. The door into our room had been forced and really didn’t look safe and secure.
•The rooms and bathrooms are very dated and shabby. Housekeeping needs improvement!
•Most rooms have corner raised spa baths. Again the noise is awful! If one is working, people in the rooms both sides and up and under are privy to the motor roar. While in a “quieter” part of the hotel we experienced party goers returning from the Dinner & Dance and starting their “spa experience” after 1am and continuing well into 3am.
We complained to the duty manager on checking out. He was willing to listen and reduced our bill, however, we wouldn’t consider staying there ever again. On our return home we received a letter from the General Manager assuring us that all the issues raised were being looked into and addressed.

Having read all the reviews to date they were all great except for one which warned about the traffic noise. Having previously experience weekend traffic noise in Adelaide at another property I decided to take a punt and booked this hotel anyway because the reviews were good and the price was good. I decided to book and chose a premium room, therefore feeling okay about requesting a room where we wouldnt get any traffic noise. Alas, it was Saturday night and we got a room on the 4th floor right at the intersection. I was, however, saved by my earplugs. Aside from that small challenge the staff were excellent, the facilities excellent, the room service cooked breakfast excellent value for money and the room was lovely and clean and well equipped. If you arent staying on a weekend night I would suggest the absence of boy racer vehicles will make it a pleasant stay with good value for money. I cant blame the hotel for the noise really though because I knew before booking it was on a main road. I also booked because I was impressed that the manager always takes the time to respond to feedback placed on this site and not other hotel seems to do that. We found a great little pub style hotel called the Elephant and something arather just one block away on West Terrace that served excellent meals at a not too bad price also as we werent keen on Dine and Dance.

We booked this hotel because of the good reviews and the position opposite the parklands. We also got a good rate for a superior queen room with our Rydges priority guest membership which included good buffet breakfasts for two, internet access and free parking(which we didn't need this time)
I read the review by the UK people from Carlisle and wondered if it was the same hotel they were talking about!! We travel a lot in Australia as well as overseas and we thought this hotel was good value for money.
We had a spacious room with a very comfortable bed and modern decor. The bathroom we had was not dated or shabby but was very modern and roomy with a good shower, well tiled and with updated fittings. I would have preferred not to have a shared balcony because of the lovely view but fortunately people only walked in front of our window once whilst our curtains were open. It's a pity to have to close the curtains for privacy so perhaps a divider of some sort would solve the problem.
We were there for four nights and we didn't find it noisy except for workmen on the morning of the last day which was a Tuesday and I guess work has to be done sometime!
We didn't find it noisy on Friday or Saturday nights either but we didn't get back until about 11.00pm both nights.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and our check in was quick. The check out was delayed because of a fire alarm and we had to vacate the premises but that was expected under the circumstances.
I would like to thank all the staff for making our stay such an enjoyable one and we hope to come back again next time we are in Adelaide.
I love the fact too that the manager responds to all the Trip Advisor comments and works to rectify any problems if he can possibly do so.

It was great value for money for our weekend getaway. The superior room was excellent and even though we weren't in the heart of the city, the shuttle bus was very convenient.

This hotel was ok, quite average decor - simple but nice. The room was fairly clean. The staff were friendly, probably not worth the money we paid as we have stayed in nicer places in Adelaide at a much cheaper price. The food we got was not the best and was nearly cold by the time it arrived, i guess not their fault. The other big minus was the tv was the worst quality i've ever seen. When we got there, all the stations were blurry and the picture didn't fit the screen. We complained and someone came up very promptly, but they said they had not had any problems with the tv's on the phone, but when the man came up to the room, he said they'd been having problems with them. He did what he could and it improved but still was quite average. The people in the room over complained and got a new one (different tv completely) but we were left with the same one. Also don't stay at this hotel if you want to be closer to the city as it is very far away from everything and you will need to drive to get food/drinks or catch a taxi.
