It was our last 2 nights in New Zealand before we headed back to Singapore, we decided to stay at the Rydges Christchurch. We booked ourself into a Deluxe City View King room, the room is so spacious with an ensuite with bath & shower. The DREAM BED were fantastic, probably the most comfortable hotel beds we've have slept in. The Reception and Concierge staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Good & Convenient Location. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Rydges Christchurch and will surely go back again!!

As a Rydges Priority Guest member I've stayed at a lot of Rydges hotels. This hotel is in a great location, right at Cathedral Square so you don't need to drive to view most of the tourist attractions. The hotel is a bit worn and is in need of a refresh. The rooms are clean and the staff are sort of helpful but nothing outstanding. I'd stay there if it was just a leisure trip and nothing special like a honeymoon or once in a lifetime trip.

Positives: Great location, near all the action. Minutes from the Arts Centre & cathedral etc Room nicely decorated. Negatives: No pool Some aspects of the hotel room are strange i.e the bathroom door needs to be painted. The safe is really small [it won't take a laptop]. The safe costs extra. Internet costs extra We had a very ok meal at The Bon Bolli.

We booked online to stay two nights at Rydges Christchurch. Two one night stays at the beginning & end of our trip around the south island. Our first visit was disappointing from the start. We checked in & went to our room to find two double beds when we had booked a City View Deluxe King Bed Room. The room we had was over looking the river, small as a sardine can & right across from the three elevators. I called reception who advised that since I was a Priority Club Member they try to upgrade where possible. However I find it hard to see that a King Bed Deluxe room to a small room with two double beds was an upgrade. We then were placed in a King City View room that was what we booked. They bought the keys up for us & then they didn't work so I again had to go down stairs. Once inside we find that the in-room safe requires a key. So another trip down to reception to be advised that there is a fee for the safe per night. This is not mentioned. We had now been at the hotel for over an hour stuffing around, they agreed not to charge for the in-room safe. We were not happy with the fact they assumed that we wanted an upgrade,they didn't ask & I felt that they should at check in. They should also ask if we wanted to use the in room safes. Savings us the trip downstairs again. This all wasting my time which could have been spent seeing beautiful Christchurch. We then get a letter under the door to welcome us. My name spelt incorrectly & the letter tells me that if I become a Priority Member I can get discounts etc. I am already one!!! So a personal letter means nothing if they can't already see that I was a member. This hotel is in walking distance to all the sights, the beds are the best thing & ensured we had a great nights sleep on both stays. We didn't eat breakfast there or order any food. I will stay at Rydges again when & if I go back to Christchurch but only for the beds. This hotel needs to get there act together on a service front as it certainly doesn't make you feel welcome when they waste your time.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at the Rydges! I booked on the Rydges website, and as I am a Priority guest (their loyalty program) i received 10% off the best rate plus lots of other little extras! I was down in Christchurch for business for 3 days, so the choice of hotel is really important as it would not be for just one night! I arrived at the hotel and a porter asked me if they could take my bag which was great, the receptionist was friendly and welcoming as well. The room was very clean and newly renovated, with the best bed that I think I have slept in at a hotel! it was fantastic to havesuch a great bed in a hotel! Ordered room service that night which came very painlessly, then had breakfast in the hotel each morning. No problems there, the staff all knew what was going on and the food was great! Had dinner in the hotel restaurant one of the nights and the others ate out, the restaurant food was excellent as well. Will definitely be back next time I'm in christchurch, thanks again
