We spent the night here on July 10, 2008 and what a disappointment this hotel was. On the surface it looked great - the location was good and the exterior attractive. Check in was easy and the counter person very friendly. We've stayed in Residence Inns many times over the years and so I was expecting it to be just fine. Our room was the typical one-bedroom/livingroom combination. Upon entering it smelled "wet" like the carpets had recently been shampooed. It also smelled like pets. I discovered water-rings on the table lamp glass and when I went to wipe them off, they were sticky. Everything else looked okay and so we left for dinner with friends. On our return, the room still smelled like animals and so I called down to the front desk to see if it would be possible to move to a different room (I'm allergic), but they were full. We opened up the sofa bed and found that the matttress was ripped, the frame bent, and the sheets for the bed were wet. Ugh. This place desperately needs some TLC, updates and better management of the housekeeping staff. I would not recommend this Residence Inn and we will most likely not make Residence Inn our first choice in the future.

My boyfriend and I, My mom, my brother and his family and an aunt were in Ann Arbor this past weekend for a family event and we booked rooms at this property. We had two, two-bedroom suites and one studio.
The photos on the hotel web site showed remodeled rooms. Well, not the two-bedroom suites! The studio had been redone, and I think the Penthouses are, too...but the only thing new and fresh in the 2-BRs were the beds. They were comfy, but everything else was in dire need of a redo.
We were here 3.5 years ago and those rooms needed an renovation then!!! Ugh!
The first 2-br absolutely reeked of mold. I mean, I walked in and it took my breath away! I refused to stay there. So the front desk moved us to another 2-br, which reeked of really, really, really stale cigarettes!!! Well, given the choice, we stayed in the ciggie-stinky room for three nights. They didn't have any other 2-brs.
The room was worn and dirty, except for the beds. The carpet was filthy - you could see places were they had tried to get out stains and took the fiber right out of it. And there were a couple of large, visible stains - one looked like a pet stain, since the hotel allows pets!!! I didn't want to walk on it in my bare feet!!
The staff was great, very helpful and accomodating. B/C the room smelled so bad, they came in and replaced all of the bedding and the filter in the AC, which only helped a tiny bit. They gave me 3,000 extra Marriott points. But the smell was in the old carpet, drapes and soft furniture. No air filter can fix that.
And the bathtubs are dangerous! I slipped and fell, but managed to catch myself and break my fall, so I wasn't seriously hurt. My boyfriend also slipped a couple of times. So be careful!!!
I point the finger at the franchse owners for not doing a complete remodel on the property, like they should have. Shame on them to rent out these rooms in this condition!!!
My poor nephew had to sleep on this very uncomfortable, old sleeper sofa. He said these were the worst nights of sleep he had ever had.
If you can get a completely remodeled room - the place is nice. We didn't do the breakfast buffet, choosing instead to just fix breakfast in the room. This is an old style Res Inn and you have to walk outside to get to the gatehouse where breakfast is served.
So, to summarize - only stay here if you can get a completely remodeled room. Otherwise, be prepared for a worn out and possibly stinky stay.

The staff at the Residence Inn is very accommodating, letting us check in early on graduation weekend. This is a good choice of property for families seeking both room and breakfast at a reasonable price, as long as it is not on graduation weekend or big game weekend, when they apparently double thier prices. The beds were very comfortable and the housekeeping was great. Many Residence Inns do not even stock their kitchens with utensils and towels, but this one did. One suggestion we would make would be to not offer Maxwell House Coffee if they want to impress the guests, plus their breakfast eggs are supposedly powdered, but the bisquits are good. Our 2 bedroom unit had a gas fireplace with a timer on it--very convenient, while my son's unit had a wood burning fireplace which could only use a firelog--purchased at the front desk.
All in all, it was not a bad deal-- just not fancy for the double price we paid.

We stayed in a two bedroom suite with our teenaged son while visiting the University of Michigan. Our room was really spacious for the price--two king sized bedrooms, two full baths, a living room with gas fireplace and a decent sized kitchen that included cookware. Our room was on the third floor of the three-story wing and was quiet. Free wireless internet was easy to access. Some of the units are lower rise and clustered around the pool, and might be noisier/less private. I did hear a dog bark once, but fortunately only once! (Pets are allowed here). The front desk staff is nice and the free breakfast unusually ample: scrambled eggs with extras like cheese sauce and jalapeno peppers, hot oatmeal, even a waffle station where you could make your own from pre-measured batter in little carafes. More standard items like cold cereal, yogurt, juice, and fresh fruit were also offered. There is an outdoor pool and a small fitness center. I would stay here again, especially with a family group. The location is not especially charming--just off the highway in an area with lots of other chain hotels. But that is par for the course in Ann Arbor.
