The SAS Radisson Royal is located on busy Nevsky Prospect in the heart of the city, and is relatively close to major attractions, although some require a bit of a walk or the use of transport. The Metro is about 1 block from the hotel.
Rooms are pretty standard "western" hotel rooms, and are clean, with all the standard amenities. The area around the hotel is very busy, with lots of traffic, so if you are a light sleeper, you should request one of the "interior" rooms, which overlook the small central "courtyard", rather than facing the street. Service is prompt, friendly and courteous, with most of the staff able to converse in English.
Breakfast buffet is generous and well-prepared, but some find it to be expensive. Price-wise, it is not out of line, however, with other hotel breakfasts in the area.
Free internet access is available off the main lobby. A nice touch here is the fact that there are no chairs at the internet stations, so you must stand while you use them. Maybe a little inconvenient, but it prevents people from "parking" themselves in front of the computers and keeping them tied up all day.
The lobby bar area is very nice, with great service, and is a good place to relax with a drink or a light meal and people watch, as the pedestrians make their way up and down Nevsky Prospect.
Price-wise, the Radisson is not cheap, but we have found it to be one of the best values in St. Pete, among the larger hotels. If you book through the hotel website, you can sometimes find a standard room for less than $300 per night.

Because of an economic conference, this was the only place I could get into. I was very nervous having read the reviews, but it was the only place that could take us. But it was amazing! Clean, polite, not nickeled and dimed for water, safes, internet access, extra pillows, etc. I know good hotels (Four Seasons, Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental, etc.) and this is as good as any. Great breakfast buffet too. The room decor was just average, but super quiet inside room, didn't hear anyone the whole time I was there. Go for it.

I stayed there regularly from 2003 to 2007 and had a wonderful opportunity to observe the deterioration of the hotel's service. It started from minor stuff like roommaid failing to clean or room service jamming orders. It grew over time to include more problems and failures. My last stay with them was some sort of 'achievement' in hospitality:
1) They failed to provide me with the parking place although this was promised when I made the reservation. Never apologised. The lady at the reception said 'A parking place? mm... just look around the hotel, OK?' That was really helpful cause I might start looking at other places!
2) I asked for one more night and the request was approved by the receptionist over the phone. How surprised I was when in 3 hours the manager showed up to tell me to get out in 10 minutes. Never heard of the request to stay longer, pal. Then roommaid came in 3 min. Then a guy with champaign in 5 min. Then a minibar guy in 3 min.
3) To outperform the level of service, the concierge told me she can't help me with the taxi cause she's busy with 'a whole bus of finns, don't you see?' Hmmm....
4) Finally, when I wrote an e-mail to Rezidor SAS asking them at least to say sorry and warning them to cancel my loyalty card, wonder what they answered? 'If you want to cancel your loyalty card, please send us its number' So I did. Buy-buy Rezidor SAS!!!

The Radisson is an excellent hotel. We stayed in a business class room which was very spacious with all the extras that make a hotel stay comfortable and relaxing. Sightseeing in St. Petersbourg is hectic and we looked forward to returning to the Radisson. The hotel staff were courteous and professional. The location of the hotel is good although you will need to take a bus to the Hermitage as Nevsky Prospect is far longer than we expected.

This pricey Radisson is located perfectly for the traveler in St. Petersburg, Russia. It's on the main street and you can walk everywhere from this location. Free Internet terminal downstairs so you can skip lugging your computer with you. My room was on the 6th floor and had a skylight view which was fabulous. My friends' rooms didn't. The room was spacious, staff was excellent and the concierge incredibly helpful. They arranged for a taxi to meet us at the airport - something I would recommend to everyone to do. I would absolutely stay here again. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but we did have coffee in the bar area. It's just first rate and I recommend it to anyone.
