stayed in the Radisson just after the New Year, having had it reccommended by some friends, and was blown away on arrival.
It is unlike anywhere else in France - man made and convenient but in the best possible way.
Booked through Erna Low who were very helpful and very knowledgable about the resort, and helped with all pre-trip queries I had.
The leisure facilities were a real treat, the children loved the outdoor pool and Spirit 1950 were one of the best ski school we have used for the children.
Food/grocery shopping is pricey in resort - I would reccommend stopping off at the Super U in Bourg if at all possible, to stock up for the week, but some good eating at not break-the -bank prices can still be done around resort, though we weren't overly impressed with East restaurant.
I think we were lucky with the week we went as it was reasonably quiet but the resort gives the impression it can cope very well for the school holiday weeks and never seem over-crowded.

Just returned from an 8 day holiday at the Radisson 1950 resort in Les Arcs. We had a brilliant time - the hotel is very good, offering ski-in/ ski-out facilities and a wellness centre with a steam room, saunas, jacuzzi and swimming pool. Ideal for after a long day skiing (although we preferred using the facilities from 7pm onwards as not so many children would be in there).
The 1950 resort only officially opened at the beginning of the year, and so everything is in really good condition.
There's a good selection of restaurants, although it is expensive to eat out. Luigi's is really good with a great selection on the menu. The Pizzeria is also very good. We did have one very bad meal at Los Chicanos. The resort's Mexican restaurant - the service was poor, the food was awful and the door didn't shut properly so there was a constant draught. My friend and I had Chicken Fajitas - mine had a hair in it, and both were not sizzling as they were only luke-warm. Another friend had BBQ ribs, and they were barely cooked. All in all, it was probably one of the worst meals we have ever had!
The skiing at Les Arcs was fantastic - this was only our second skiing trip and so there were plenty of blue runs to occupy our time, plus some reds that we were able to try.
We travelled to and from the resort by the 'Snow Train' - an overnight train that takes you from Paris Gare de Nord to Bourg St Maurice, and back. The transfer from the station is only about 30 minutes. The train journey itself is an interesting one! The carriage sleeps six people and space is not in abundance! Its a tight squeeze, but at least you get some sleep. We would definitely use this again, as although its a longer journey than flying, you get some rest and it also enables you to have 8 days skiing instead of six. It wouldn't however suit everyone - particularly those that like their comforts!
All in all, we had a brilliant time. The hotel was great, the resort is amazing and we really enjoyed the skiing. We would definitely return (though not to Los Chicanos!).

a few things to know
Guest name: lady_lorraine, norfolk
we had a good stay at the radisson
like other reviews the hotel quality is far in excess of what to expect in france
the only frustration was the fact that on check in and check out days the wait for the lifts can be upto ten minutes as the staff use the same lifts to transport the guest luggage and laundry
a service lift is definitely required
as far as ski school is concerned we used spirit
the point no one else made was that if you have different ages of children the meeting points for spirit are in various locations in the village _ the beginners meet by the cariboo club at the bottom of the village the next level up meet by the snow gardens which are above the cabriolet lift at the top of the village and then the mouse level meet between the cabriolet and village clock this would put me off using spirit again
Fabulous!!

We have just returned from a week's skiing in Les Arcs 1950, staying at the Raddisson SAS apartments. As usual I was a bit dubious about our trip given the negativity of many of the reviews, but the resort and the apartments are just fantastic (although having a shed-load of snow at the start and end of the week surely helped!)
This was our first skiing trip with children (4 and 7) although my husband and I had both been skiing a number of times before. Of all the other resorts we had been to Les Arcs 1950 is by far the most picturesque. It is only a very small resort, but ideal for families. And it is certainly ski to door! (Suitable footwear is needed for evenings - although pathways are made the street is full of snow so heels are no good!)
We used Spirit 1950 for the children's ski lessons. After only two hours private lesson on a slope in the UK, our eldest was in Level 1 ski lessons and was racing down the slopes by the end of the week. Our youngest started as a beginner, and whilst there were too many kids in the lesson to start with, the instructors eventually seemed to take effect and he made great progress by the end of the week.
The apartments themselves are very comfortable and again, the best we have ever stayed in.
And the restaurants we tried were all very good: East (asian - limited menu choice but Mongolian buffet was excellent - we never had room for our second helping!), Il Valentino (italian - wide choice of pizza and pasta - and again excellent quality) and the tex mex. As most other reviewers - we made sure we booked each night (sometimes we only booked at 4 or 5 ish for a table that evening) and we never had any problem. The italian was by far the most popular.
And as for the skiing - it was just great. We skied to all villages in Les Arcs and all runs were good. The link to La Plagne is not working this year, but we didn't have time to even miss it. And with the kids being in ski school, we realised we would not have had time to get over to La Plagne and back anyway - you would certainly need a full day to make that worth while.
Overall it was a great family holiday and we're already looking into booking exactly the same next year.
Simply the Best

Just returned from Arc 1950 on Easter Sunday, and to say it was amazing would be an understatement. This resort is by far the best resort for families and romantic couples we have ever visited.
We have spent the past 7 years in Whistler, Vail and Val D'esere to mention just a few, and this venue beets them all hands down for charm, facilities and Friendliness. Yes it is much smaller and suits families and couples, although I would not recommend it for singles looking to party into the night.
With its ski through village, The skiing, (Although, helped by metres of snow) was 10/10. Superb off piste areas and natural sections near arc 2000 although for 2 days prior to easter the entire piste area was covered in waste deep snow, so wouldnt have been best for beginners for these 2 days.
The apres ski was super for families, the restaurants were excellent, They were expensive although there were 3 of us (including our 2 yr old son) and for a 2 course meal with a bottle of wine average costs were circa 90 - 100 euro., although, what most people dont realise is that there is also a take away option for at least a third of the price, and you can always get the wine elsewhere, ie, the Spar or even better in Bourg at the base of the mountain. The village put on events every evening (weather permitting) whereas one example was a small bonfire in the village square, with all the children heating marshmallows on the fire (well done to the village organisers).
Raddison at arc 1950 is a magical resort and one that will surely grow into a world class leader for families. It is new and room rates are very reasonable at present, although I hear that prices will eventually increase as demand grows higher. We have already reserved a room for next year at the raddison, although this time we shall stay at the Manoir near the enchanted stream. One word of Warning though, If your driving dont forget your snow chains, We had to pay 100 euro to the car park attendant underneath the village. We would not have got down the mountain without them.
