I stayed here in February for 2 nights, in a superior single at the internet rate of 100 euros per night, excluding breakfast. I had the "gable" room, i.e., the one at the very top, with windows on 3 sides. I loved it! Although it wasn't luxurious by American standards, it was very typical of European hotels. And when else can you stay in such an old, charming place?
The bed was very comfortable and clean. Maybe because it was February, I wasn't bothered as much as other posters by the partying noise from the square, and the church bells didn't bother me, either. And, as a bonus, because of all the windows, I got some great night shots of the castle.
I didn't require TLC from the staff, but they were helpful when I asked for a map and to tell me where the bus stop to get back to the train station was.
I would definitely stay here again.

We have just returned from spending a fantasic couple of days including new Years Eve at the Zum Ritter. It is a really pretty building, laced in history and location is superb.
Initially our room was not ready as we arrived approx 1pm, but didnt mind going for a wander and found all these great pub/restaurants literally doors away!
Our room was huge, very tall ceilings and a great sized bathroom. Please be ready for when you are in the said bathroom and look out the window, you are sure to see several tourists snapping their cameras at the front of the hotel!!! Hilarious when they wave back to you!!
We didnt eat at the hotel, we had dinner at Die Hirschgasse which was exquisite.
We loved Heidelberg and we loved the Ritter, would definately stay there again when we return.
Oh, got a late check out too on New Years Day, cant be bad!!!

I stayed at the hotel for one hot evening in May. Although it is very centrally located and a lovely appearing hotel, it was a miserable experience. The room was small, not particularly comfortable and extremely hot -no air conditioning. In addition, the noise level was incredible. Since we had to keep the windows open to get a little cool air, we heard very loud street noise. Restaurant noise, music and just people screeming outside resulted in no sleep until 3 AM. I would not recommend this hotel.
