This is one of my favorite hotels anywhere! The spirit and grace of Munich is reflected in the hotel, which is within walking distance of most things a visitor would see. It's an easy walk back to the hotel if you go to the opera or to a performance in the Residenz, and it's on the subway line for the Prinzregenten Theater. If you don't feel like walking elsewhere in the city, both the tram and the the U-Bahn are within a few steps of the hotel's door.
I have always been treated very well by the staff--and I have been staying at this hotel for almost five years. A short flight of stairs leads to the reception area and elevator, but if you have trouble with your bags, you could leave them inside the door and I'm sure someone from the staff would be available quickly to bring them upstairs. I always ask for a room facing the back--it is very quiet and if the weather is warm, you can leave the window open without being disturbed by street noise.
The rooms are well cared for and lovingly furnished with period furniture. Some of the rooms even have book shelves and books. The lighting is good and if you want to read before going to sleep, you won't be squinting over your book. Beds are comfortable and so are the pillows. The bathrooms are not huge, but they are conveniently organized and everything works--I've never had slow drains or missing stoppers for the sinks.
In warm weather, breakfast is served on the patio, surrounded by flowers and greenery. In cooler weather, the breakfast room offers a warm welcome to the morning. My favorite breakfast here is Muesli, which is already soaked in milk and yogurt, and ready to be topped with a good selection of fresh fruit and additional yogurt. Cheeses, sausages, the local Bauernschinken (a raw, cured ham), a selection of breads and Semmeln (rolls), and platters of fresh vegetables supplement the Muesli and stave off any hunger pangs until lunch. The coffee is delicious and everything is served with style.
I hope you enjoy your stay here as much as I always do, while you get to know Munich and everything it has to offer.

What a wonderful hotel! We stayed here for 3 nights and loved it--beautiful reception area, very nice room on the 3rd floor, very clean bathroom...the front desk staff were always very helpful and friendly, and they have wireless internet access that's pretty inexpensive--when I had trouble getting it to work with my ipod, they worked it out on the computer in the reception area instead for me. Breakfast was very complete, with lots of variety--we had leisurely meals in a very pretty room downstairs--quiet but charming, a nice way to start the day.
The hotel is also well-located--in Lehel, a neighborhood next to the Altstadt--an easy walk to the opera, the Gasteig (where the Philharmonic plays), the Maximilianstrasse, Deutsches Museum, etc. If you want to walk as far as the Marienplatz, it's still only 20 min. and through such pretty streets, why not? We never bothered with the U-bahn, although there's a stop right there.
I hope that we'll be able to stay here the next time we're in Munich. It's a charming hotel.

This hotel prides itself on providing a splendid environment with original artworks, good music etc. This is certainly true of the reception area. While the rest of the hotel has been 'prettied up' it lacks other features that would have made for a more positive experience. Although the website states that there is an elevator, this doesn't start until you are in the reception area. This means that people with disabilities may have difficulty in climbing the first flight of stairs up to reception, and getting their luggage up there. There was a very unpleasant smell (damp?) every time we opened the door to our room, even though we always left our windows open. There is no fridge in the room, so you cannot keep a soft drink or snack in there. The breakfast was mediocre, and was an expensive extra. It is probably worth staying here for one night, just for a look at the place, but would not really recommend it for a longer stay. If you do stay here, eat your breakfast at the Italian cafe next to the U-Bahn stop just around the corner. It is located a fair distance from the centre of the city, so this again is a consideration for the disabled. Some members of staff are a bit haughty and quite unhelpful. Clients / guests are clearly a nuisance, and one in particular was very quick to be judgemental about people (e.g. telling them they ought to walk up the stairs, without even considering that they might be disabled and unable to do so). If you ever watched Fawlty Towers, imagine Basil in a dress, and you have it . This place has potential, but this will not be realised until they have got the idea that a pleasant attitude is one of the most important features of a good hotel. At present it is just an overpriced place that doesn't have the positive features that some much lesser hotels do have in buckets. There is an old saying - "all mouth and no trousers". Don't stay here unless you are wearing an Armani suit.

Sophisticated small boutique hotel in quiet "posh" area called Lelhel (sp?). Very near Maximillian Strasse and only a short distance from Marienplatz. Quite a find in a busy central location.
The rooms seem to all be charming and a bit different, some with balconies. There is a devine garden area, quaint breakfast room with excellent breakfast choices and a parlor and small bar area adjacent to Reception that couldn't be beat! I was told the hotel was decorated with art and special pieces from the Owner's personal collection - outstanding!
Would definitely stay here again!

I was SO surprised to pull up to this hotel - it was WAY nicer than I would have expected! We paid only $125 for one of the nicest rooms/hotels we stayed in during our trip all over Germany. This hotel is gorgeous - from the amazing library (with internet service) to the beautiful breakfast room. Our actual room was great too - antique furniture, pretty paintings, large windows, great bedding. The bathroom was tiny, but somehow was still funcitonal. I absolutely loved this hotel, and highly recommend it. The location was great too, sort of on a quieter street right off the Maximillianstrasse, only a few minute walk to everything fun in Munich!!!
