Having cancelled our booking for the Sheraton Yokohama Bay Hotel in favour of the Pan Pacific's Luxury Ocean Twin room, we had wanted to love this hotel. However, after a tiring shuttle flight from Sapporo to Haneda airport, a bus ride to Yokohama CAT bus terminal and a short taxi ride, we arrived at the Pan Pacific at 12.15noon.
Upon arrival, the bellboy had said ''May I take care of your luggages since now is before our 2pm check in time?" We refused to believe what we have heard, though we do hear of such strict hotel policies once in a blue moon, nevertheless, we were still hoping that we could check in right away. Fat hopes!
Thinking that our Luxury Ocean Twin room might be vacant, we checked in at the Hotel lobby only to realise that the receptionist lady had said the same phrase to us. But we insisted that she check the computer sytems and telling her that we would check out at 7.30am the next morning. After going thru the motions, she had said that our room was not available till 2pm.
Disappointed, off we go to the attached Queens shopping arcade, only to find people queueing up at all the restaurants we thought of patronizing. We soon realised that it was a Saturday afternoon, no wonder ....This is indeed a lousy start to a somewhat brilliant stay, I soon realise this after checking into our room at, you guessed it, 2pm sharp!
We were probably located corner room, 1712 (if I did not remember wrongly). The room was gigantic in size, maybe a good 50-55 square meters. The bedroom cum sitting area come with very comfy big twin beds, an old TV, round dinning table with chairs, wardrode and a very small balcony with table and 2 chairs. Surprisingly, there was no dressing table ...
But the main wow factor has to be its huge, very huge, bathroom - a big bathtub (no jacuzzi though!) with DIRECT views on the Giant Ferris Wheel, a separate shower area, enclosed toilet area, and an oversized twin vanity sinks. This was the MAIN reason for me in choosing the Pan Pacific over Sheraton and Royal Park. And boy, was it worth it ... taking a long soak in the tub while admiring the changing of colours on the ferris wheel at night, SUBLIME!
When night time falls, the MM 21area on which the Hotel is located on, is simply gorgeous! There are just so many things to see and do - the huge amusement park with its gigantic Ferris Wheel, the No. 2 dock with its many restaurants, high end shopping near Royal Park Hotel, big Sailing vessel, imitation Tower of London, Sky Garden on the 69th floor of Royal Park Hotel etc etc.
Other must visits in Yokohama are - Sankeien Garden (15 minutes away by taxi), Chinatown and Yamashita Park. We only spent one night in beautiful Yokohama, what a waste! We would surely return one day, however, the Pan Pacific's strict check in time is a big turn off for us, an otherwise, OK Hotel.
Our other minor glitches with this hotel were - no Wi-fi in room, no flat screen TV in room and no breakfasts provided even though our room rate was 51,000 yen. Would we return, yes, but only to their Luxury Ocean Twin room, and nothing less. Oh yes, we will only check in after 2pm on our next visit ...
Still thinking of the moment we spent sitting on the balcony at night time, sipping beer and wine, admiring the constant changing colours of the Ferris Wheel ... MAGICAL!

I really liked this hotel. While booking - they had a "plan balcony" special - I called up the night before at last minute. For basically $200 with breakfast - you get your money's worth. This is an upscale business hotel in a prime location. After a day of touring Kamakura's shrines/temples - this was a great reward. The view and accommodations are fantastic. Be sure to grab a tourist map at Yokohoma station - there is much to see in this area. I will definitely return! Check out the naval museum :) The balconies were fantastic, private, and breathtaking. I stayed on the park side. Great hotel with access to the mall underground there.

I absolutely loved every minute of my stay in this hotel. I had previously stayed in the Royal Park and hands down, the Pan Pacific wins on all counts.
When comparing the two, the Pan Pacific seems newer and the overall decor reflects this. My room was large by hotel standards with a lovely sitting area and balcony overlooking the harbour and Cosmo Clock.
The beds were comfortable, the bathroom a respectable size. Everything was top notch.
As far as hotel facilities, I ate breakfast in the main restaurant. The buffet was a little disappointing because I wanted some healthier options. Ordering off the menu seemed to take an inordinate amount of time, so I only ate the breakfast buffet.
I had a drink in the hotel bar, which was alright, albeit smoky and no view.
The best restaurant experience in the hotel was easily the sushi restaurant. I sat at the bar and due to the lack of English menu, relied on my knowledge of the different types of fish, to order a la carte. What a special experience to sit at the bar, watching the chef prepare the meal and suggest things to try. Be warned though, ordering off the menu turned out to be a very expensive dinner!
All in all a great hotel experience.

Very up to date hotel with modern western accommodations. The hotel has a pool, several restaurants, live music, very knowlegable help, good English speaking help and is connected to the Queen's Mall and train station.
The only minuses are the restaurants are too expensive so I did not sample them. There is no storage space in the rooms so you live out of your suitcase. The rooms are spacious and the twin beds are actually full-sized or three-quarters size.
If you are attending a convention in the Pan Pacifico, it is easy walking distance. Also the Cosmo Clock and amusement park are very close. The train station is in the mall.
