We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Hapuna Prince Hotel-from the moment we walked in and were greeted with fresh juice and alohas, we knew we would be happy here(despite the construction in the lobby). We barely noticed the construction at all as most of our time was spent outside-occasionally there is some noise, but the hotel staff, service, rooms, food, pool, grounds, and best of all FANTASTIC beach, more than makes up for any construction that the hotel is undergoing.
One day I had a problem getting into my room because of a door issue-I was frustrated, but that night the staff left my husband and I a note to apologize and a bottle of champagne on ice! The staff here really seems to want to make your stay a happy and relaxed experience. The snorkeling at the beach is quite good. There were always plenty of umbrellas and chairs available at the beach. We generally relaxed at the beach and in the beautiful ocean for hours and hours. I enjoyed making my way up to the poolside grill and bar for wonderful mixed drinks. We also loved the buffet breakfast. We were in a garden room and yet still had a view of the water, I enjoyed the few shops inside the hotel-got some nice t -shirts and gifts for folks at home. It was hard for us to tear ourselves away from the Hapuna-our only problem here was that the stay was too short-we will definately be back!

We stayed at the Hapuna Prince for the last few nights of our honeymoon and loved it! The ongoing construction in the lobby had no impact on our stay. The hotel was amazingly quiet for the size. I am not sure if the construction is keeping people away, but we never saw more than maybe 40 people. This was perfect for the last few nights and exactly what we were hoping for. We stayed in an ocean front room in tower 3 and completely loved having wine on our balcony watching the sun set. Waking up to cool ocean breezes, the sound of crashing waves, and the gentle palms swaying was more than we could have ever asked for. The beach itself is amazing and is a must see.

This resort was actually quite good although the comments below will be affected by the fact that it is currently being renovated so take everything with a grain of salt.
ROOM: I stayed in a premium ocean view room on Level 9 (the highest level). The view to the ocean was fantastic and marred only by one of the hotel's buildings which was 30m in front. There was generous space in the room and it was very clean. It had a mid-1990s decor about it but the bed was great and the making up of the room and turn down service was efficient. Another thing that was surprising was that there was absolutely no outside noise or noise from neighbouring rooms so there must be some great sound proofing. The bathroom had great space. They stock Neutrogena products in the bathroom which I didn't mind so much but my travel buddy thought it was a bit too economical for such a resort.
DINING: There were only two out of four restaurants open at the time due to renovations. Coast Grille was where breakfast and dinner was taken - they had a fantastic dinner menu and the service was fast and friendly. Unfortunately, the breakfast buffet was a little underwhelming and we had to wait for about 20 minutes on a few occasions before we could be seated. Ocean Terrace was also ok - not a great selection of things for dinner but it offered good poolside dining and good smoothies. Cafe Hapuna was also open but I can't comment on it because I never ate there. Also, there weren't enough simple, healthy options for food but perhaps that's a characteristic of American food in general.
SERVICE: At all times and everywhere in the resort, the service was helpful and positive. They responded well to requests for advice, directions and room service. The only glitch was when we requested room service at a very early hour as we would have to check-out before the breakfast buffet started and the hotel refused as they said it wouldn't be covered in our breakfast package. This was somewhat inflexible as we've been in this situation before at other hotels and it has been accommodated.
FACILITIES & AMENITIES: There is a nicely appointed fitness centre which is located away from the hotel, off the golf course but it's only a short walk from the main entrance. There are also spa options available with massage rooms in the fitness centre itself. The pool is quite nice and there were enough umbrellas to go around, even in the middle of the day (although the resort was probably operating at half capacity due to the renovations) but there was no water sports equipment - for this, you'd have to visit their sister resort which can be accessed on foot or by shuttle which leaves every half hour from 6am or 7am. We didn't play golf so unfortunately we can' comment on that. There are, however, some great tracks for running. There is only one ATM in the entire resort and when we were there, it was out of order. The internet was also quite costly to use in the business centre comparatively so it would be better to bring your own laptop as the wifi access in the rooms is cheaper all together. We didn't use this service but they have several picnic packages which they can arrange for you if you'd like to take a day trip - you do need to give notice though.
GENERAL HOTEL: The resort is massive. The architecture is uninspiring but the grounds are very well maintained. The renovations weren't noisy and it really didn't affect our stay too much but they are renovating a huge area. They did, however, add a $35 room credit daily to compensate for the inconvenience caused which was really minimal. You should consult the hotel beforehand so that you won't be disappointed if you do happen to turn up and there are renovations going on. The parking is free which was a welcome surprise and they do have valet too. The lighting of the grounds at night is minimal so be careful where you step! The beach is wonderful - the water is so clear and there's a nice hammock by the pool where you can unwind.
Overall, a good stay.

We just got back from our vacation on the Big Island. We stayed the entire time here at the Hapuna Beach Prince what a great place! If you want to get away from the crowds this is the place. First the beach its one of the best beaches on the islands hands down if you want a little change take the shuttle to the sister property the Mauna Kea and enjoy that beach. The resorts are sister properties so you can move between them no problem. The exception is that the Mauna Kea is going through a complete renovation so most of the buildings are closed. The Hapuna is going through repairs of its lobby, but it’s really no big deal. The service, food, smoothies, and Mai Tai’s are all first rate. The view from our room of the beach could be used for a postcard. At night the hotel really takes on a plantation feel very relaxing and quiet. We are looking forward to going back!
Cheers
