We stayed at the Pacific International Suites in January 2008. We were staying in Melbourne on the Australia Day long weekend.
Overall, I found the place to be satisfactory. Our room was serviced daily, and was clean, overall. However, the windows were smudged from the inside, so it didn't feel "really clean". I was a bit uncomfortable about that....
The telephone in the kitchen area of our apartment didn't work. We requested that someone come up and look at the phone. When the guy arrived, he only really told us that the phone didn't work, and that we should use the phone in the bedroom instead. I was a little disappointed about that.
Overall, the place was OK. We were able tos ecure a good rate for the duration of our stay, and overall, it was OK. Would I stay here again? Probably not. But I guess I am fussy about things working properly and my surroundings being very clean.

We booked two rooms with King Beds at the Pacific International Suites in December 2007. The rooms were clean and well maintained. There were two TV's in each room and the bathroom was spacious. The location is excellent within easy walking distance to Bourke St Mall and Chinatown.
The only annoyance was having to call the conceirge to bring our car up from the carpark when needed.

Wouldn't stay here again, despite clean room

I stayed here for an extended period in December 2007, and can give a fairly comprehensive report on this place. Here's the scoop:
GOOD
- Rooms are clean and spacious.
- There are laundry facilities available.
- Location is convenient, although a few blocks walk to most of the places you want to go to.
NOT GOOD
- Internet access is extremely expensive and extremely slow . This is the number one reason I'd never stay here again. If you have a laptop and want to access the internet from your room, it costs $27.50 PER DAY, *plus* additional charges if you exceed a rather low threshold for data transmission. Additionally the connection is very slow, and for some hard-to-fathom reason the cable is located in the livingroom, nowhere near the desk, and there's no available electrical outlet near the cable. Argh.
- Rooms are unusually dark. Insufficient lighting.
- Housekeeping doesn't clean any dishes you use. Don't be fooled. All they do is rinse in water and put the dishes back in the cupboard.
- There's rarely anyone at the concierge desk.
- The restaurant looks nice but the food is subpar. It's hard to kill a caesar salad, but they managed to make one I found nearly inedible.
- Not service oriented, to put it mildly. Front desk staff view their job as checking people in & out and collecting money, period. Getting a non-functioning lightbulb replaced took 2 days and several calls. Getting an answer to a question regarding internet access took 3 days, 4 phone calls, and 3 trips downstairs to the front desk. Stayed there over the Christmas holiday, and they don't so much as wish you a Merry Christmas.
- When I went to check out, there were unexpected charges, e.g. $28 for parking (not mine; I didn't have a car there), and nearly TWELVE dollars for a very short call to a local cell phone. They did agree to take the parking charge off the bill, I gave up trying with the rest of it.
- There is no safe deposit box in the room.
- I have never before in my life stayed in a hotel where they give you only *ONE* washcloth and *ONE* hand towel. And that's on the days when they remembered. This gives you an idea of the mentality there.
NOTE: for those with laptops, there is free wireless available at the Australia on Collins mall. It's unsecured though, so you should only use it for web browing. I found it there myself after the hotel manager told me there was free wireless at Starbucks - but of course when I went there I found that it's not free - you have to have a Telstra account.
Conclusion: there are better places to stay in Melbourne.

My family and I stayed at the Pacific International Suites in Melbourne 471 Little Burke Street from the 28/12/07 to 1/1/08. We arrived early at about 1030 am and we could not check into our room so the hotel stored our bags for us, when we returned to check in our bags were already up in our room waiting for us. We had a one bedroom apartment, which was large, modern and clean. Three minor things I did not like about the room were the sofa bed my daughter sleep on was uncomfortable with a very thin mattress, not too bad for an 11 year old, but would be terrible for two large adults. The shower head in the bathroom was a water efficient one, too water efficient and finally not enough pillows. The location was good a 10 minute walk to the Burke Street Mall, 15 minute walk to the Queen Victoria Markets and Flinders Street train station and a 20 minute walk to the Telstra Dome and the Crown Casino. The free tourist bus has a stop just around the corner on William and Little Burke Street. We caught the 96 tram in Burke Street to St Kilda and a tram to the MCG from Flinders Street. All in all we enjoyed our stay and the staff were helpful and friendly and the street was nice and quiet,. I think I got a pretty good deal on the net directly through their site. We would stay here again.
