The Swiss Diamond Hotel is locates about 8 km from Lugano. It's right on the lake with beautiful views. Is has several restaurants and it's a good place for meetings. Rooms are big and new. Often full at weekends and rather empty over the week.

We stopped at the hotel for a few days to see Lugano during a driving trip from Florence to Switzerland. Sadly, it rained heavily which obscured much of the lake's beauty. The hotel is a little gem, very clean and professional. The spa has limited facilities indoors but if the weather had been better, we would have enjoyed much more of what is available at the hotel, in the form of lake-side pools. A great stop-over spot during a trip but not ideal for a long vacation spot.

My family stayed at the Swiss Diamond on a recent trip to Italy and Switzerland. Rooms are reasonable size and have a lovely view of the lake. Prices are extremely high and the service was at best unfriendly and at some points down out rude.(We were told quite rudely that our "drinks at the bar voucher" in the package was only for a soft drink not a mixed drink. Complimentary shuttle service to Lagano was in reality a 50 Franc charge. The hotel does not come close to the Park Hotel Vitznau that we visited next. Excellent service, caring staff and terrific dinners and breakfest buffet. Both hotels are simiarly prices but the Park Hotel was miles above this place. Skip the Swiss Diamond and head for another location. The hotel tries to be a five star property but does not come close.

This hotel is highly UNDER rated in Trip Advisor. It should be ranked in the Top 2 or 3. Just as a comparison, we stayed in this hotel just before staying in the Hotel Du Lac (in Lugano). We paid nearly the same price at each hotel. The Swiss Diamond was much MUCH better and yet the ranking here is lower? Strange. This is a true 5 star quality hotel. In fact, the photos that you see on the hotel's website do not give the true image of the charm of this place. The swimming pool is very lovely and the area around is very luxurious. The wellness area is beautiful and very relaxing. Our room was increadible with a lovely view of the lake. In the evening there were very professional singers which created a charming atmosphere at the lake front restuarant. Disadvantages? Sure a few. The restaurant and bar are very expensive. Also, the hotel is about 5-10 minutes from the center of Lugano by car. But the hotel does offer a shuttle service, if you arrange it in advance. I can imagine how uncomfortable it must have been for the other people that reviewed this hotel and to arrive by public bus. Too bad they did not know about the free courtesy shuttle. The service is top quality, everything you would expect of a five start hotel. When you come here expect to be treated well. Finally, be sure to check out the hotel's websites for offers. We received a great package, an offer which included food vouchers and entrance to the wellness area, total cost was less than the normal room rate. We are already planning our next trip back to the Swiss Diamond next month. The Diamond is a real jewel. We are glad that we discovered it.
