The hotel is beautiful and very well maintained. The rooms are large and luxurious. The staff takes care of every need. This is as nice as any luxury hotel in any large city for a fraction of the cost. I would highly recommend it.

I've stayed here twice on business. The staff is uniformly lovely. Once, I forgot my cufflinks and the woman running the sundries store got the security guard to open up the men's store to get me a pair. Above and beyond! I have stayed in the old and in the new tower. The new tower reminds me of Embassy Suites. The old, called the Pantlind, is one of those grand early 20th century midwestern hotels, like the Brown in Denver, and there are others in most midwestern cities, that have giant chandeliers, very high ceilings in every room, hallways that go on for a city block, etc., that were always the premier place to have a wedding or similar celebration in the town.. There are a bunch of shops and multiple good restaurants in the hotel complex and the Chop House, one of the finest restaurants, in the city is right across the street. It sits on the river and you should ask for a room with a view. Of course, it's Michigan, so only go in April - October!

Some of my family and I (total of 6 adults and 3 kids ranging 3-7yrs) recently stayed at the Amway Grand Plaza on a Saturday night in March. We figured that staying at a hotel would be the one way the adults could all get together to catch-up while the kids had fun too … and it was perfect! We could not have chosen a better hotel. The kids loved the large pool area (the adults actually did too! The pool furniture is very comfortable and upscale versus the typical plastic chairs you find at most indoor hotel pools). The adults loved the beautiful lobbies, the nice guestrooms, and the great weekend rate that we got. The hotel staff are all wonderful and accommodating. They actually smile and look like they enjoy what they do, how refreshing!
I stayed at the Amway Grand on business about a year ago and had a wonderful stay then as well, which is why I recommended this hotel to my family. They have everything a business traveler needs, and then some.
We love to travel and have stayed at several 5 star hotels. This hotel is by far one of the nicer properties we have ever stayed at ... and it is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan!

We have stayed here many times over the years and enjoy the beautiful and unique hotel. The last time we visited we decided to dine in the hotel but were very disappointed. We went to one ofthe nicer restaurants in the hotel. We were shown to our table and sat for a bit without any service. There was a table near us that had some customers that were obviously of some importance to the staff. They had two servers for a table of 4-5. Our server took our drink order and upon returning dumped the entire glass of water in my husband's lap. She apologized and left. My husband went to our room to change and the server pretended it never happened. We had to continually ask for service as everyone was serving or helping serve the adjoining table.
After eating our adequate meal, we went to GP Sports (the sports bar in the hotel) and were talking to our waitress. We ended up telling her what had happened and how disappointed we were in our service. She said she was embarrassed and gave us each a drink while apologizing for the poor service earlier. We have actually never stayed their again.

The Grand Plaza Hotel is everything I expected in a high end property. Great room, very good food, friendly staff, and worth the price we paid. We were traveling to a state board certification in town and needed a luxurious rest to be in the best shape possible for our test the next morning--we passed!
