We booked this holiday on a late deal, tried looking on the net to see what it was like but couldn't find much & decided to go with the flow. Hotel La Calma should only be a 2 star in my opinion. Upon arrival we had to wait 10 minutes to be even seen at the reception desk even though 3 people were manning it at the time. Once we were seen & we handed over our paperwork to book in the male clerk just said the word "English" & rolled his eyes. Now, i was 36 and my hubby is 38, we are very "normal people who keep themselves to themselves. His attitude did miff me slightly but i put it down to him having a bad day. We got our key & went up to our room.
The corridors were in dire need of decorating & their was a musty smell & badly stained carpets. Our room was o.k in size, like most people we headed to check out the view from our balcony, as i pulled the bolt to unlock the patio door it fell off in my hand, not a good start. We rang reception & a young woman came up within half an hour. When i pointed out the problem she said "this is no problem, very safe around here, nobody can climb into your room." We were on the first floor & it was easily possible...after complaining more it was eventually fixed 2 days later.
My other complaint was the food, like the other reviews state the other clientel at la calma were mainly French, I don't expect the food in a 3 star to be outstanding but i thought it was dire. The tables had a jug of water & we helped ourselves until a very rude & grumpy waiter came over & glared at us & said "not french" & took away the jug. We asked why & he said "not french you pay". Now this wasnt stated anywhere when booking or anywhere in the restaurant. We would have been happy to pay for drinks had we known. The other gripe was that the waiters tended to stand around & not clear plates from the tables, by the end of your meal you would be struggling for room to eat in.
As you can tell, this was my holiday from hell. On the upside we were not far from a small coved beach which was quieter than the main stretch. We enjoyed the area & if you like to stroll of an evening you can walk to arenal, where it is a bit more lively. Can pastilla isn't far from the Airport so quite a quick hop if you don't like to travel for too long.

very disapointed with this hotel,as it is mainly sold by a french company called FRAM, to the french,you are greeted by the spanish staff i.e receptionist. waiters in the french language,the waiters were especially rude and unhelpful,as soon as they new we were english they just kept their distance,the HEAD WAITER just stared and gave funny looks at us everytime we saw him, not once did he speak to us, never the less ask us if thing were alright or not, i would just like to let you know we are a couple in our early 50s,and dress for dinner,they did not once offer to bring water or the complementary wine to our table.yet we noticed that they bent over backwards for their french guests getting wine+water to their tables as soon as they walked through the restaurant door, this made us feel unwelcome ,there was only one bar man that i could say treated us ok in the evenings when we dicided to drink in the hotel,all the signs and notices up in the hotel are in french this is quite confusing when you expect them to be spanish,apart from that the hotel was very clean,and we had no prodlems, regarding the food, it could be a little stange at times but for the cost of our stay we could not complain.this hotel is sold as being an international hotel,but really it should be sold as being a french hotel,dont get me wrong, the french guests were fine and mainly friendly,its just the hotel staff that need to get their act together,and treat everybody the same.

We have just got back from a week's holiday staying in Calma Hotel. The hotel is owned by FRAM and is a French hotel. We were given no help or information during our stay and the staff speak French and Spanish and very little English. All leaflets, entertainment and notices are in French so we felt quite lost. Having said that, the staff are friendly. The rooms were clean but we were greeted by 2 glasses in the bathroom that had dried up old toothpaste stuck to the bottom and were chipped. There are no amenities in the room even though some websites say they have hairdryers/kettles etc. You couldn’t hire them from the hotel either. The food is pretty standard to a lot of hotels and there is no choice for vegetarians other than salad. The majority of the guests are of retirement age. The pool is tiny and there is nothing much for children, so anyone with children would be better off at the beach everyday or staying in a different hotel
Can Pastilla itself is a pretty resort with very little night life and is very much an older persons resort. There are several bars in the resort. They are very low key but friendly.
Palma is a short bus ride away and cost 1.20 Euros and is well worth visiting.
