There is not one good thing that I can say about this hotel—oh wait one thing. The breakfast was good and the service in the breakfast room was good. It all started with just pulling up to the hotel. There is no valet service, no help with the luggage, etc. We received directions to a garage behind the hotel, then we had to lug our suitcases up ourselves—no cart! The people working the desk were rude and unhelpful. Our room was horrible, dirty, small, and very unwelcoming. There were paper towels in the bathroom where there should have been tissue! The shower head wasn’t working, so my husband had to use a q-tip to get it to point the right direction. Our friends in the room next to us had it even worse. She had to bend down in the tub to wash her hair because they couldn’t get their shower to work at all. Also, there was no coffee maker in the room. The hotel is located in a bad area. I felt very unsafe. The town of Freiberg was nice; we walked to the little town and really enjoyed our time there. We found a nice restaurant for dinner. And the next day we enjoyed the market. If we ever have to go back, we will stay at a different hotel. They claim to be a 4 star hotel??? No, more like a 2 star.

We stayed in the Rheingold for 4 nights. The room we were given was a smoking room but very large. We asked for a non-smoking room and was given a much smaller room so we put up with the smoking room( which had a very slight whiff of smoke) and aired the room and within a few hours, the smell had receded. The room was spacious and comfortable- in fact pretty much what is in the hotel website. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Bar is small ( closed on Sundays and limited on Mondays)- try the cocktails- delicious. Very close to the station- 2 minutes walk away and very convenient as you can travel into the Black Forest and also to Basle in Switzerland very easily from Freiburg. Had an evening meal there one night- very nice and compared to British prices- good value for the steak. Would stay in this hotel again.

My wife and I spent five nights at the Hotel Rheingold and had a delightful experience. The hotel presents an in-town experience, with an intimate restaurant and exceptionally responsive service. The staff were friendly and helpful, on several occasions going well beyond our expectations (a staff person actually helped deliver us to our airport for departure!). The rooms are quite serviceable; the entire experience was truly noteworthy- well worth it!
